I hate the first day of school. It gives me so much anxiety that it keeps me up at night. I've been trying to sleep for three hours when I'm supposed to be awake in two.
I don't even know where my classroom is; this is completely infuriating to my poor, fried teenage brain.
I'd love to just tell my brain, "Hey, go to sleep," and be that simple. But you know what I discovered? The more you force your brain to sleep, the more pressured it will feel, and the harder it will be to fall asleep.
Someone send help, and way too many Radiohead albums. Please.

Oh yes, anxiety can work this way. That is completely normal, although very annoying. Sometimes it can help if you try to occupy your brain with something else that requires its full attention (so something active rather that passive), if sufficiently demanding it can tire you out enough to fall asleep. But sometimes you are just so much focused on the source of that anxiety that all that you can do is endure through that and be sleepy next day:) But if it will offer you any consolation, know that usually your mind is quite a bit more dramatic than the reality is. You will manage and your first day will probably be just ok:)
Good luck in school!
Thanks! I couldn't sleep, but I just started reading. It's a good start to the day; at least I won't go to school like a zombie.

Reading is a great way to get sleepy, it will trigger your imagination which is a straight way to dreaming:) May I ask what are you reading?
