☾ ⋆*Some Underrated Indie Games

✧˚ · I Love Indie Games!

My favorite thing to do lately is play indie games, specifically those that are story-driven. They're such a revolutionary way to tell stories--they fully immerse the player into the world/situation and present the opportunity for the player to choose how it goes. Not only that, they're excellent vessels for artists as well. Playing a game is like walking through a giant interactive art exhibit. I just love them so much!

Here's a few I've played lately:

Grimshire

I am in LOVE with this game. It's a farming simulator very close to Stardew Valley, but what I specifically love about it is that the farming aspect is for survival. A weird plague has wiped out the mainland in Grimshire's world, leaving the small town of Grimshire to fend for itself. You have to farm/fish/etc to feed the town, otherwise the cute animal villagers may perish. It's not complete yet, but it's a lot of fun!

Gourdlets

This is such a cute game! There's no money, no combat, and no stakes--just build a town for cute critters called Gourdlets! I love building elaborate cities and making up stories about my Gourdlets. There's a sequel coming out that's multiplayer too!

Ropuka's Idle Island

I always throw this on when I have work to do. This island is a little widget that sits on your desktop as you work! Ropuka the frog trims grass idly as you work, and eventually you can unlock new scenery and hats! It also can play music and you can resize it how you want.

One Hour One Life

This is a multiplayer game where you are born as a baby to another player. Over the span of one hour, you age! Your goal is to help out the society you've been born into, whether it's just starting out or already flourishing. After an hour, you die. It's a really silly game but I find the premise unique and beautiful.

The Roottrees are Dead

This is the best detective-type game I've ever played! You are a private investigator hired by someone anonymous to comb through the family tree of a very elite family. You're not told what you're looking for or why, just to assemble the tree. The mechanics of searching on an old computer and looking through evidence are awesome and there are hints available if you get stuck, though I never found myself stuck at all!

...and So Many More!

This is only a handful of some of the most creative and interesting games I've ever played. Most of these I got on sale and I don't think I paid more than $15 for any of them! They're all fun in their own ways and I love to come back to these in particular. If you're thinking about giving any of them a try, do it!!! :D
