Hi all!
This topic has been in my mind for a few a days now and as a University linguistics student I think it would be interesting to share my concerns and opinions on slang relating to sexual situations and their effects on women
Essentially, given that we live in a patriarchal society - men having more power over women - newer generations of slang definitely feel like this is being reflected upon. Let's take some examples within sexual situations e.g "cracked". or "tapped." These words definitely lack the emotional aspects and human tone which the act of intercourse is based upon.
Individually, "cracked" - albeit a newer term - is a harsh sounding word with letters "c" and "d" almost implying ferocity, potentially detaching and breaking away the emotions when people engage in the activity. Furthermore, "cracked" may make one think of glass and potentially fragility. With this, the continuous theme of objectification of women may be at play.
Secondly, the word "tapped" implies a quick notion - think of tapping a desk or a pen. It's quick, right? This could signify that men wanting sex only want it to "increase" their body count rather than engage in this action with somebody they properly love and feel a deep connection with. This also ties in to hook-up culture, but that will be a different blog for a different day. Futhermore, these are also vulgar terms which can be tied with "smash "screw" or "bang" all having almost violent and dehumanising undertones.
To conclude, these terms may indicate the patriarchal and male dominated society we live in today. For instance, cracked and tapped may imply a power dynamic between the man and the woman - whereby the man has the power. This is potentially reflected by the word choices of women relating to intercouse, where they may be less likely to use these potentially harmful terminologies.

no me too, completely agree. the overall attitudes of sex has, i feel, changed to be more of a "game" rather than an actual thing people do with connection. imo it is quite sad
