I worked as a video editor on a corporate company for almost 2 years. In fact, this is my first job on my career. You know, there's so many ideas I've already edited many videos through the storytelling. It's been a great to share it online, despite they assigned me to create short-form video. Of course I collaborate with marketing and the managers per brand.
I also assigned for a videographer to go outside and do the tasks required. This is where manager-san and I are going to the event, showrooms, private resort/staycation, and then client, celebrity or content creator's home for a visit regarding on showcasing and reviewing the product. I would say it's cool to discover new things and interact with these people, especially when I talked with them about their hobbies and interests. Some of them can be highly strict, nitpicky, or rare to see them their genuine side outside being a famous person.
I guide the in-house content talents on that company, specifically for any voice recording for the brand content. They always preferred me to take a lead for directing and guide them to improve their talking and constructive feedbacks. This is already out of my main skillset, but this is what I want to do other than these two positions because I need to step off a bit on video editing for a while.
Throughout the time of working on that company. There's so much idea I want to do it until... I heard that one executive staff mentioning us the team "Good job everyone! Every content is more sharable than before. They said they can now show off their products beautifully. That's what CEO said." At first, I feel proud... temporarily... but in reality... I feel not good...
After scrolling around the community threads like Reddit and other video comment sharing their own experiences. I realized the company and the CEO only cares about themselves than raising the employee with outstanding performance. I keep asking myself... Is this my actually a dream to work as a video editor and videographer at the same time? Can I ask HR if there's any raise? Should I switch to other company that offers higher benefits and salary? Start freelancing? Time will tell... I don't know when...
I'm tired of thinking about this... even that one colleague I worked before, recently quitted working there because of chaotic fast paced working environment. His last message was "you deserve to take a lead..."
I wonder why people told me to take a lead...
With those experiences I faced, I get less time to sleep despite I worked 8 hours a day, lunch hour not included (9-6 job rather). That's because I want to relax at home by workout, playing, writing, editing my own video content, talk with my mom & sister, and reading. There's a catch, after I edit or doing any videoshoot at working hours. Usually the time can go beyond or overtime due to ridiculous traffic condition where I lived and depends on the agenda/event's schedule, and the client too. I would rather go to bed straight and rest than do my personal hobbies I want to give a progress. How was my working condition during my video editing mode? I take a break a lot during the working hours and often stand up and stretch & walk for a while. That's the most important thing rather than getting my butt grows too big as the balloon.
Keep it mind, not all companies may not like this based on my experience. If you have this similar job irl, please take care yourselves as always!
