Overview

It’s Just Jam is a narrative film about a blueberry turning into jam. The blueberry’s efforts to conform to the carton of blueberries inevitably leading to the decay of his physical form. This film is a metaphor for my experience growing up in suburbia and the complex feelings I hold for my hometown. When the blueberry becomes jam, he is embracing his true form; he no longer needs to conform to the other blueberries. He finally fits in, but at what cost? What has he left behind? Progress so far...

I have officially started animation! I am working on my 2D assets using ToonBoom. I am not loving the look of ToonBoom, so I am currently experimenting with Duik Angela in After Effects. I am hoping once I get more familiar with Duik, the 2D animation process can go much further. This process will also be very helpful for future projects!

I hope to start pixelation next week. Having the pixelation for the first scene done will allow me to see how the pixelation and 2D animation mix. I hope to get through 2D animation by the 18th of March, this will give me plenty of time to work on stop motion animation. My projected last day of animation will be the 8th of April. I am expecting stop motion to take less time than 2D animation, but I will have to be in the studio to do all the stop motion. While I don’t live too far from the studio, the studio schedule is more of a constraint rather than just working from home. I have finished all backgrounds except live action and stop mo backgrounds, which will be added in during compositing.

Compositing

I am updating a living cut of my animation every Wednesday. This will help me get a good idea of how much animation I still need or how well the story is working. I expect this project to have a lot of compositing, so I am giving myself a lot of time to figure out any roadblocks I might meet.
