the resident evil fandom is a prison and media literacy is dead

ignoring the fact i havent posted in forever... i feel like this is the only place where i can talk about this without getting blasted (i hope). i love resident evil, ive been into it since i was 5 (i used to watch my uncle play it) and to this day im still obsessed with it, with the lore, the characters, the vibe... everything about it really. but ever since i started interacting with other players it started feeling like a lie. i can't wrap my head around how toxic a community can be, especially for such a beautiful franchise. capcom has definitely made some very commercial choices and leaned a lot into fan service when it comes to characters like leon kennedy, but i still didnt expect the fandom to be like this. many people don't even play the games and only know about them because of tiktok edits, many others played all of them and discourage anyone who tries to get into them because unless they won't start from the most niche, ancient games they're not worth it. all of them and anyone in the middle are simply unable to have a conversation and will jump at each other's throats over nothing. the most discussed themes are who's cracking who and who wins the 'i suffered more' competition. i know its not that deep but it just makes me sad. resident evil hits me the most because its a world im deeply passionate about but this applies to a lot of other stuff as well. socials have killed media literacy and turned movies, games and books - art in general - into disposable products for which any opinion stands for analysis and strips them of any inherent meaning. sure, art is about interpretation, but you don't really love it if interpreting is all you do rather than trying to understand it. had to get it out of my chest.
