Top 10 Sauces

What Counts as a Sauce

A sauce is defined as, "A liquid or semisolid food mixture used especially as a topping or ingredient for adding to or enhancing the flavor of a dish," per Merriam Webster. I'm not including broth though that's different.

Sauces I don't like/ Haven't Tried

  1. Aioli - Haven't Tried
  2. Worcestershire - Tried once didn't like it but I had it as a kid and I was really picky so I'm open to trying it again and reevaluating
  3. Teriyaki - Don't Like, not explaining
  4. Chimichurri - Haven't tried it
  5. Those french mother sauces - Haven't tried it.
  6. Gochujang - I'm sorry, I haven't tried it
  7. Hollandaise - Haven't tried it
  8. Viniargarette - Only good on salads and I don't like salads with one exception that's escaping me at the moment.

Mayonnaise

I appreciate the versatility, you can dip it and use it as an ingredient in a way no other sauce can compare. Why? Because it's plain. So I revere this sauce, however it's disqualified from the ranking because it would beat all these other sauces even though I like other sauces better.

Honorable Mentions

  1. Fish Sauce
  2. It may smell bad but it makes things taste good, that's what counts. However it's not multi-purpose. It's just a flavoring.

  3. Marinara
  4. Dippable (mozzarella sticks) and flavoring (all the marinara pastas), better sauces. I'm including pizza sauce with this.

  5. Pesto
  6. Delicious, I just like 10 more sauces.

  7. Chili Oil/ Lao gan ma
  8. Love it. It's great and better than pesto. I just like other sauces better.

  9. Bechamel
  10. I like it. It's good. But it needs other sauces with it for it to shine. I can admit I've only had it with lasagna unless that's not where bechamel goes then that's my mad.

  11. Barbecue
  12. It's good but the but is quite pronounced.

  13. Tzatziki
  14. It's good I like it but it's not as good as other sauces.

  15. Honey
  16. I just forget it exists to much to like it that much. Love Winnie the Pooh though.

  17. Nutella
  18. Bit one note, never enhances a flavor only adds to it.

10. Syrup

Underrated. It's at the bottom because if made terribly sweet it's terrible. If it's made just right it's great on bread, sweets, sausage, and bacon.

9. Canes Sauce

This is purely because I had it recently this will change in a day. It's good though unexpectedly too.

8. Soy Sauce

Classic. I just think it's better in other sauces than as a sauce itself.

7. Ketchup

You can eat it with fries, burgers, chicken, it's quite versatile. Some Asian dishes use it as a flavoring as well. It's classic, but it's basic.

6. Hot Sauce

It's great on wings, flavoring other sauces, and on eggs. It's versatile, but it's middling.

5. Sriracha

It's superior to hot sauce. It goes on everything hot sauce can but better except wings. It even goes on more like... I'm not sure but it's superior.

4. Cheese Sauce

Also called queso, also called mac and cheese sauce, it's great. I love it. Lactose intolerant people really can't eat this. Delicious.

3. Salsa

Gimme dat now. It's great. Love. I like that it can be salty or sweet. People who argue that this doesn't have as much versatility are close minded and haven't an ounce of creativity.

2. Teekha Pani

I had this once and it was like my life was changed forever. Delicious, addicting, fantastic, give me 10 bottles.

1. The Noodle Sauce my Mom Makes

I don't know what she puts in it except soy sauce but it hits every time and my mother who birthed me and brought me into this world must be first.

Good list but you’re missing out on aioli. I could eat buckets of it. Dipping fried calamari in it is such a heavenly experience

I'll have to try it then

honestly. you're not missing much with the french mother sauces. they're meant to be kinda bland asf since they're the baseline sauces. i think the only one eaten on it's own is hollandaise, but that's really it. most of the time it's just flour, butter, milk, or some form of stock. stick to the YOUR mother's sauce, cause if it ain't broke? don't fix it

I deeply apologize for my dislike. I suppose since you asked this warrants an explanation. School lunches ruined it for me.
