intro
these are a few inexplicable experiences of mine. i don't know whether they're paranormal or something else. i can't say anything with certainty. so i'm completely open to any and all explanations. including your thoughts!
i've also added a few scary experiences that are not paranormal in nature. those turned out to be just as long as the first part. alright, here are some of my weirdest and scariest moments summed up!
contains: paranormal scares, situations of inappropriate sexual circumstances, near-deaths experiences
inexplicable
1. the blinking red light
let's start off with a big one. the setting: i was 15 years old (2017), home alone, in my bedroom. my room used to have two doors. one connecting the hallway and one connecting my parents' bedroom (which also had two doors). when seated at my desk that door to my parents was behind me. that night, it stood wide open. i didn't have any lights on- only my pc screen illuminated my room with a blue-ish glow. their room was dark too. pitch black even, because they kept the roller shutters down all day.
i was silently playing minecraft when suddenly... i heard the digitized sound of a 90s videocamera hitting record. "beep-beep." i immediately swiveled around in my chair. and looked through the open door. floating in the darkness of my parents' room, at about shoulder height, was a blinking red light, like old (reporter) videocameras sometimes have. no body or anything like that. merely a floating red light. after looking at it for about 3 seconds, it went "beep-beep", turning off and disappearing. i swung back to my screen befuddled, processing the happening. mere seconds later: "beep-beep." i looked at it again, saw the floating light for about 3 blinks, before it turned off again, "beep-beep."
this time i sprung up. keep in mind less than 10 seconds have passed so i'm still not thinking straight. i swiftly walked straight towards the apparition in order to investigate. as soon as i stepped into my parents' room (the light switch is on the other side) i saw absolutely nothing- pitch darkness. i stopped whereabouts the light just had been and... a sinking feeling of pure terror tore through my body. it felt like my intestines fell out of my ass. a pure, primal panic: run now or you will die. i stumbled backwards before turning around and sprinting into the corridor, down the stairs, into the hallway, and i started turning on lights everywhere on the ground floor. i stayed downstairs for over an hour until my parents arrived from their dinner.
i was super afraid of going to sleep. days later, i begged my parents for a second bigger bookcase, which i promptly put in front of our connecting door. only once it was sealed off could i stop feeling like hunted prey every night i was sat at my desk.
almost a year later i decided to paint what i saw. in order to do that, i recreated the entire setting. i removed the new bookcase, opened the connecting door, turned off all the lights, and painted with only my pc screen light. my heart was pounding for the entirety of the process. this is the result:

link if the image doesn't load: https://i.postimg.cc/8PMm327w/het-blinkend-rood-lichtje.jpg
at the end i added the red dot as i remembered it. i also genuinely attempted to recreate the setting. but no matter what devices i turned on in the dark, i never managed to recreate a blinking red light, floating at shoulder height, nor with that quintessential 90s videocamera sound.
2. the voice imitator
the blinking red light gave me terror, but this one felt more evil.
i was once again home alone during the evening. this time my parents were on a trip and my older brother was at a friends' party which i had declined on attending. i was downstairs with my dog, watching tv. the vibe was cosy. as advertisements were running, some really stupid, cringy ad came up. it was so cringe that i physically winced. i audibly said: "auw" (=ouch). a second later i heard a voice yelling, exactly in my older brother's voice, "auw!", in a mocking manner. i could also tell it came from the attic (his bedroom). my previous house was built in a way that you could easily tell where a sound came from.
i froze and thought to myself: "did i really just hear that..?" but i wasn't convinced yet, until... i looked at the door to the hallway, and saw my dog had run over to it, staring intensely at the doorcrack, with his tail stiff and straight up. i slowly got up- increasingly shaking- and went to open that door. my dog quickly weaseled his way through it and ran towards the stairs. he put a paw on the bottom step and stared upstairs, tail again frozen upwards, a sign a dog is paying close attention.
i too stared towards the darkness above the stairs. this was after the red light incident, and i did not dare to just walk straight towards the source this time. the fact that this voice was mocking me and imitating my brother truly felt like it was trying to lure me. it felt ill intended. i got increasingly panicked. as i called my brother, i started almost crying from fear. he told me our friend Damien was just about to leave his house to cycle to them, and he said he'd call Damien to have him pick me up. i waited outside and felt really guilty for leaving my dog and cat alone but i was too panicked. when Damien showed up, we cycled to their friend's place. once finally there i hugged my brother like i never had before. he's super sceptic but from my emotions alone, he believed me.
3. the cross necklace
i recently posted about this one. i was gifted a cross necklace while i was in a different city. i was wearing it when i got home. my mom commented on it. i then took it off and placed it in my drawer along with all of my jewelery, as i always take off all my necklaces and bracelets when i arrive home.
the next day i fully expected to just grab it from my drawer. but it wasn't there. even though the bracelets i had been wearing were. i emptied all my drawers, closets, jackets, pants, the dirty clothes bin, even bags/purses i hadn't used in a while. nothing. i tried the whole search from start to finish a few days later with a fresh mind. but no result then either.
then, almost two months later. i had been walking up and down the stairs multiple times throughout the evening. i eventually settled in and watched tv upstairs. my parents had long gone to bed. but i wanted a drink so i headed downstairs for the umpteenth time of the day. halfway the stairs on a turning plateau, i stood on something hard and saw a silver glistening in the dark. i picked it up and looked at it in the light. yep, it was the necklace. the necklace was just laying there in the middle of the floor of the stairs, where they weren't just half an hour before.
this irked me so much that i went and spoke with my mom who was up late from insomnia. but she said she had zero idea either, as she hadn't used the stairs for over two hours at that point. i cannot think of a single scenario where the necklace could have appeared from at that spot and at that time of the night.
4. the document in my bag
this is a smaller one but you have to understand how weirdly impossible it is. it was in high school. during the very last class of the day we received a document that had to be signed at home. after the bell rang i put the paper loose inbetween my books inside my bag and zipped it up. i went straight to my bicycle, cycled straight home, put my bag on the table and zipped it open to retrieve the paper.
it was gone. i emptied my entire bag and flipped through my books. it just wasn't there anymore and it never showed up again. you can imagine the multiple frustrated "huh!?"s i exclaimed.
5. grandmother's facial glitches
this occurred multiple times. i didn't keep count, but approx. about 5 times, spread over more than a year.
when i was 7 and 8 i occasionally stayed over at my grandparents'. my grandmother used to bend over to talk to me. but a few times something strange happened. her face would become all distorted. think like a tv showing snow, or actually more like animated lines constantly changing shape/direction. not only that, but my entire vision would become blurry, dark, and cyan tinted. and her voice would disintegrate along with her face: like a slowed down radio losing power. this was so frightening and disturbing that i would always start crying in confusion. the effect would only slowly dissipate until minutes later everything went back to normal. they never understood me when i tried to explain afterwards what happened. after about 5 times it never happened again. but it was exclusively with my grandma.
6. the flower mindmill at the children's graveyard
this one is creepy but bittersweet.
my niece is a christian and has her own share of paranormal experiences. so we're both into the afterlife, death, graveyards. during a family party we were getting a bit bored so we decided to visit the graveyard together. it was dusk at that point. we slowly traversed the resting place while chatting in a hushed tone. we visited the childrens' graves section and made it a point to stop by each and every tombstone. we read every name out loud and commented on the cute pictures, decorations, texts...
one grave was of a toddler. amongst its decorations was a small plastic windmill in the shape of a colourful flower. i'm not sure if this exists outside of belgium but it's common here to find these wooden sticks with hard, plastic windmill blades in the shape of a flower. they turn in the wind but only in very strong winds. anyway, we finished up the section and walked further. but for some reason we both spontaneously glanced back. we both saw the windmill start spinning rapidly. then it instantly stopped as if stopped by a finger. it was a windless evening. we looked at eachother and walked back to the grave.
the windmill had become dirty and stiff. i tried blowing at it very hard, but it wouldn't budge. there wasn't any wind, anyway. i then spun it with my finger, which again took some effort. it stopped moving the second i let go. in other words: only intentionally physically manipulating it would make it spin.
we said goodbye to the child and told eachother he must have appreciated our visit and wanted to say hi.
scary everyday life
1. the intruder
i was home alone late in the evening. my parents were at the vacation house with our dog while my brother had a late night football match. i was playing minecraft in complete darkness (that's two scary happenings in the same setting, come on now). my roller shutters were even down to keep out the heat because it was summer. from the outside, the house was completely dark, and must've looked deserted.
my sliding door leading to the tiled patio was a very heavy door. it made an unmistakable sound, and it was unlocked. and i have great hearing. so, when i heard that door sliding open slowly but surely, i called out: "Nico?" (brother's name). but instead of his agitating voice i immediately heard someone running away in surprise. i heard their shoes on the tiles. i was shocked and waited for about a minute before i felt safe. i turned on every light as i made my way downstairs. indeed, the sliding door was half open.
my brother returned home over half an hour later. i kept the sliding door locked from then on. years later our poolhouse would get broken into twice, so i'm sure it was a would-be intruder who was surprised to hear my voice!
2. street harassment
as a guy i don't get nearly as much horror stories on the street as my girl friends do. i've experienced a few drugged out/mentally ill men screaming at me. but the closest, most disturbing encounter was sexual in nature.
i was standing in front of a sign with a QR code on it. i was scanning it when i suddenly felt a hard pinch in my buttcheek. i looked to the side and saw a man and a woman casually walking arm in arm. i was too dumbfounded to say anything. by the time i felt my throat open up again and i wanted to scream at him, he was too far away to bother.
i felt really ill and upset about that for the rest of the day. i've been grinded upon during pride fests but an encounter this casual and silent, especially with a presumed girlfriend on his arm, really shook me.
3. almost-drownings and near-suffocations
i've very nearly drowned thrice and almost suffocated in a stack of haybales. one example of drowning was just after swimming class. we got to spend the last half hour in the 'kiddie pool'. nonetheless, it had lane dividers floating through it. when the teacher called it quits i was the very last kid to leave the pool. she was already on her way to the exit. i tried to swim underneath a lane divider but floated up. i got stuck under it, with the floaties right among the center of my back. i couldn't move forward, i couldn't move backward. and my shallow breath of air was up within seconds. in a panicked struggle i managed to very slowly float forwards. i had already inhaled my first portion of water when i finally floated to the surface. even when coughing and crying, the damn teacher didn't check on me. bitch.
the haybale incident was just as close, if not closer, to asphyxiation. i was playing with my brother on a farm we were staying at (vacation house). we were messing around on top of three stacked rectangular haybales, surrounded by other towers of haybales. and suddenly i disappeared. i fell into the shaft where four tower corners met eachother. but the thing is, this shaft was maybe as wide as a forearm, and i found myself at the bottom, squeezed into foetal position, with my face pressed in my upper legs so tightly that my nose and mouth were blocked. i think i couldn't breathe for almost a minute. i still don't know how i weasled myself into a different position because there was absolutely zero space. but i managed to gasp for air when i finally disconnected my face from my legs. my father was laughing as i was crying at the bottom. i had to climb up until i could grab his outstretched arm and he pulled me out.
NEVER let your children play on a farm.
4. two stalkers pairing up
another story from when i was 15, man this was a terrible age. so, i was porn and sex obsessed at this age, while simultaneously actively suicidal and so lonely that i was desperate for men's attention. i have multiple horror stories related to that desperation but here's the weirdest and longest one.
one day i got a message on facebook (back when facebook was still primarily for under 20s). it was from a guy in his early 30s. let's call him Stalker 1. mostly empty profile, his face in his profile pic was mostly obscured by sunglasses and a cycling safety hat. he was a racing cyclist. he said he recognized me from me "cycling by every morning to school" and that he sort of knew my dad (who was in his 50s then). i asked what he meant by recognizing me cycling by, and he said i always crossed an intersection near his house (keep this in mind). how he knew my name just from seeing me on a bicycle? he always evaded answering that.
within a few messages Stalker 1 asked me to meet him tonight at a bicycle bridge about two kilometers from my house. my mind immediately sprang to sex so i said yes, ignoring all the strange signs. that night i indeed met him there. he was quite ugly and out of shape, but my hormones eventually took over and i started kissing him after like 10 minutes of awkward chitchatting. he kissed me back. i said i had to head home again because i snuck out and we made plans to meet at his place later that week.
our chats got sexual as he said he was gonna show me what a good massage was at his home. i got there and was confused by the location of his house. because the intersection i pass every morning was nearby but not exactly right along his house or anything. the only way he could see me "every day" would be if he camped out in the street and hid behind cars or something, because i never saw him before or after our contact.
i'll skip the details of the massage meeting but basically we got to rubbing and kissing but he actually put a stop to it. his massage skills sucked ass too. i finally left feeling annoyed and led on, so i texted him soon after that i wasn't interested in seeing him anymore. he didn't like that.
for the next weeks, he would send me tens of messages per hour, asking to meet, asking what he did wrong, telling me he needed me, that he would go all the way this time, etc. my gullible self tried explaining his wrongdoings at first. but eventually i gave up on that too. after a few days of ignoring him i blocked him. but he kept making new accounts to contact me. i also dreaded cycling to school every morning, though i ended up never seeing him.
after a few weeks, i got a snapchat friend req. i accepted it and started chatting to some guy who (said he) lived two towns over. let's call him Stalker 2. after two days of chatting he said he was friends with Stalker 1 and that the three of us should hang out. i was like ew no, i never wanna see him again. he kept pushing and pushing. eventually he said "he'll be on the cycle bridge near you at 20 'o clock tonight". this bridge is not the one that's far away from my house, but so nearby that i could see it from my attic window!
i anxiously peeked out of the window that evening and sure as hell, i saw a person on a racing bike. it was too far to be 100% sure. but i mean it was 20 o clock and i saw a cyclist standing on top of the bridge anxiously looking around, so...
he eventually left and all chat activity ceased for a while...
literally YEARS later we were gonna sell our house to move (20 at this point). my parents were doing the sale mouth-to-mouth so telling friends to tell their friends etc. lo' and behold who's at the door that i happened to answer. Stalker 1. he said: "oh hey you, i'm here to see your house." i was so shocked to my core that we were standing face to face, that i said "oh wait, i'll get my dad" with a sweet smile. fuck me. i yelled for my dad and ran upstairs. luckily, my father said they weren't taking any more visitors that day and that he should contact us again later. i was hyperventilating in my parents room until i realized Stalker 1 wasn't going to come inside. when i went downstairs i decided to not keep it a secret anymore. i called my parents and brother together and told them the story above.
their response? "did he actually rape you?" no... "oh well, nothing bad happened then. but fine, we'll just tell him we've sold the house so he won't return." i was disappointed by their reaction but at least he wasn't gonna come inside. it was so OBVIOUS he had somehow heard of our house sale and he wanted to come sniff around inside of my bedroom. because no way would a single man buy a family house with three bedrooms and a huge garden...
but that's still not the end. at age 18, my promiscuity exploded. i ending up "paying" for doctor treatments by... pleasuring my doctor. that's a whole story on its own that i won't get into here. but at around age 20 i received messages on a dating app alluding to the cycling bridge and then to me doing that with my doctor. i really don't think it was the doctor himself, the way he typed sounded exactly like Stalker 2. but how the hell did he know that? were Stalker 1, 2 and the doctor buddies?? still unanswered questions. that really upset me again. i got messages like that on three different occasions, always from blank profiles with gibberish names. and Stalker 1 (with an identifiable profile) also tried messaging me there but i blocked him.
that was the end of it. now at least.
5. toilets hate me
let's end on a lighter note. i seem to be drawn to faulty toilet doorlocks. i think i've been stuck for under a minute in about 10 toilets, and ACTUALLY stuck in three. this is so unpleasant as an adult. but whenever it happened to child-me i would always panic and scream and cry. especially if it's not a stall with gaps but a completely closed space, tiny of course. i still never go to the toilet in a public space without my phone in case i need to call for help.
outro
okay that was longer than i anticipated. i even scrapped a few events because they seemed too small in comparison. i can always post a part two i guess. but these are my main scary events. and it doesn't even include my most traumatic events (because those weren't scary in the traditional sense, just really sad and senseless). anyway i'm fucking bummed out writing all of this.
i'd appreciate a comment if you've read even half of this. thanks for reading and goodnight, goodday, good life

The stalker stories hit home really bad man :( Glad they haven't shown up in a while now, and I hope it stays that way. But they just never seem to quit sometimes

I'm normally very skeptical and logical, but honestly your paranormal experiences are really making me believe in things. I don't wanna scare you but be careful... LOL. The second one was SCARY as shit. But honestly I love how you turned the first experience into art, it really captures the feeling, i almost feel scared looking at it.
And im so sorry that you went through the rest, being troubled can get you into a lot of shit. You definitely should've confided in your parents sooner because that could have ended terribly, but of course I understand when you're young, you're dumb. That's definitely the creepiest of them all tbh. I'm glad you're safe now though.
thank you for thinking and feeling along with me kada ^^

Oh wow -- I've had a similar thing happen with a necklace, albeit a little more extreme lol. When my mom died in 2024 we had to pick out the clothes that she would be buried in, and I also picked out a necklace that I had bought her. The pendant was a mother and daughter sitting together on a swing under a tree, to represent us. Now keep in mind, I also have a matching one, I bought one for each of us. We gave it to the funeral director with the rest of the clothes.
About 6 months later, we're going through some of my mom's stuff and I found it in her jewelry box. And it wasn't mine, because I had just found mine somewhere else earlier that same day. I even dug back through my order history in the place I got them from to make sure I hadn't somehow ordered 3 by accident -- nope, just the two.
I still have no explanation for it and it does keep me awake at night sometimes lol
that's indeed infuriating, so weird. at least one extra is better than one lost!

I have an explanation for all the experiences you describe. But I would need your permission to use your experiences and put them in a blog, so I can elaborate on them. The explanation will obviously involve common sense and timecops.
wow...? permission granted, im curious!

holocene
i'm gonna read through these all eventually, but so far i'm at #2 and i swear this exact thing happened to me!
my house isn't that big and it's easy to tell by sound where people are. one day when i was probably around 9 or so, i distinctly remember being upstairs by myself, my mum being downstairs, and hearing her call for me to come down. i leave my room and just as i stand at the top of the stairs i hear her calling me again, but it was unmistakably from another upstairs bedroom. in a completely different tone of voice but obviously my mother's.
it was unsettling to say the least since i knew for absolute fact she was not in that room. i've never had the sound in this house play tricks like that either. i didn't check the room, and went straight downstairs almost as if some instinct told me to ignore whatever the hell that was. she was downstairs and i never mentioned it to her.
i think i can totally imagine that scenario. truly creepy. thanks for sharing!
