conservative punks (and other fairytales)

Even though I dislike the right wing – much more those who call themselves "punks" or similar, but defend a political side that would hate the freedom they supposedly have as a lifestyle... and let's be honest, those same guys who call themselves "conservative punks" would be calling real punk rockers faggots, satanists, perverts, and vandals if this were the 80s and 90s – I still think the left-wing alternative crowd is way more annoying.

Reason: Because they love to say that all subcultures are leftist because of history and blah blah blah, but most of the time those who say this haven't been part of the scene for even 2 years, discovered rebellion on TikTok, probably buy all their clothes from Shein, only listen to famous bands, and "studied" the subculture through little videos on the internet made by other unbearable teens... yet they want to point the finger at those who have been part of the scene for decades and say they are "posers who don't belong to the community" because they don't agree with a political position that wasn't discussed in that space until like, 2020. Subculture isn't "studying history" on the internet, it's lived experience. If you've never even been to an underground show and weren't even born when the subculture (whatever on it is) was peaking, you don't have enough experience to say what is or isn't part of it. It doesn't matter that conservative types "don't fit the requirements" of the community, if they've been there since the 90s, for example, they know more about this than you do.

And also, pushing them away from the movement only makes them more vulnerable to falling into extremist groups. From my own experience, I can say that it's very easy for an alternative person (especially younger ones) to become attached to conservatism because nowadays there's this false idea that being right-wing is "the new counterculture," and usually these teenagers end up realizing that their ideals and aesthetics aren't welcome on the right for real and distance themselves from that political side (or at least from the more extreme ideas), but it's much harder for that to happen if you treat these kids like they're irredeemable monsters.

I also suppose that the number of conservatives in alternative movements is because either they were too young when they entered the subculture to understand the political side (or they didn't speak English to know that Green Day singing "the innocent will never rest" wasn't just meant to be edgy) but they clung to the feeling of rebellion and continued being punks even as adults... or because you get older and you get boring and want more stability... anyway, can we stop pretending that there were never conservatives, fascists supporters and even Nazis in any subculture until, like, yesterday? Some of the founding figures of the movements you fawn over so much weren't as politically correct as you think. The problem is that we keep projecting post-pandemic politics onto guys from 1985.
