I’m running a few friends through a little tabletop adventure, loosely based on Daggerheart, which will sling them across the cosmos in a Federation starship called the USS Okuda.
The thing that I’ve enjoyed the most about this was how Star Trek’s tone changed the story I wanted to tell. I originally planned to open on a fist fight with the Gorn, a little action to galvanize the players. But then the idea of simply exploring a barren world full of skyscraper sized dead humanoids seemed more Trek.
The whole adventure (in the first “episode” at least) is less about combat and more about moral dilemmas and the terror v curiosity of stepping into the unknown.
Idk…I think it’s beautiful that the spirit of Trek can transform an adventure simply my thinking back on the episodes I grew up on and how to best give these players a similar feeling of exploration and surprise.
