my reasons for joining

i feel like after thoroughly criticizing a subsection of spacehey users for their reasons&use of spacehey i feel obligated to share. or more of im looking for more things to post and this is a cheeky way of doing so.

so to answer the question: why did i join spacehey?

many reasons! a lot of them more or less come from the same place and follow a certain theme.

for one my growing hate of the current social media landscape.

twitter and tiktok are horrific and the way that they suck you into this endless slew of (typically negative) information is insanely predatory in my opinion. i used to have twitter for a while and after uninstalling i felt better. while using it i noticed that im more irritated and go along with my day frustrated at some dumb post i saw in the morning. lets not forget that these platforms share a lot of things and make you care about a lot of useless things, in turn causing FOMO (fear of missing out).

also, the format on which these platforms operate isnt for me at all. as you can see im insanely wordy. i have a lot to say. i love talking! and i think all of what i written thus far would have to have been split between about 4-5 twitter posts in a thread, and on tiktok into a multi-part slideshow or a video of something unrelated with a TTS (text to speech) voice over.

with my frustrations i started going back on my memory lane to the past where social media wasn't this fast. which leads me to my next point! oldweb.

call me nostalgic, but as ive said before i like the old internet a little more. it was slower, smaller, and plenty things were made by and for users. of course can't ignore the terrific trends and overall things that happened back then bc of this (like completely unmoderated racism, gore, lolcowing, etc), which is why i meant by a little. i still cant help but miss parts of it in some way.

i didnt use it growing up, but i saw my brother actively use DeviantArt when it was at its peak (~2009-2014). the community seemed tight-knit, activity was buzzing. for another example, again i didnt grow up on it at all, Newgrounds. its very sad to see these sites become abandoned and force artists to use the other afformentioned socials.

both DA's and Newgrounds' appeal to me a lot, commenting and sharing was highly encouraged. basically, forum-like but not stricly. ive tried forums before however the format wasnt all that comfortable to me.

which, finally, the actual point of this - blogs!

ive been on tumblr for nearly 8 years, properly started using it 6 years ago. as much as tumblr has kind of gone under (to say the least) its format and main premise being blogging appealed to me a lot. organization by tags, being able to create personal ones, post formatting, proper posts archive, theme customization - it was perfect. nearly.

im a huge personal space and organization freak, well, as seen by my last blog post. the fact that if i put something for the sake of my own organization to what's considered a "main" tag can be seen by anybody freaks me out. i hate random followers, i hate blank strangers. i like to curate my space (har har).

this personal style of blogs got me thinking about the era of MyJournal and BlogSpot, er, sorry, Blogger. this reminded me of the old style of blogs and things like personal sites on GeoCity.

alright, no more beating around the bush, im gonna say it bc idk how to nicely word it.

with my hatred of newest social media, this sort of visibility it provides, and organization, i looked to SpaceHey just for that. here im looking to have a person-type profile and a blog where i can talk about whatever and format it however i want.

a finger on the monkey's paw curled and the super cool old-styled social media website from my dreams was created. however old-style means everything AKA horrible moderation/complete lack of it. i havent witnessed it at all as ive been on this site for only a whole week, but from the horror stories ive heard its a running problem.

to wrap this up properly, im not sure if im ready to call this place home, but its one of the closest things i can get to my "ideal" internet experience.

affinity SIGNING OFF!

edit: it seems like ive made this type of entry before?? it was my first. i forgot about it honestly.
