Have people lost the plot..?

I don't even know where to put this, that's a common matter so ig that's what fits the best.

I was on instagram and saw a video about natural things people should accept as part of natural bodies such as having eyebags, hairy armpits, not having a sharp jawline and not being interested in doing anything to "fix" it, and there was this comment where someone said "i agree but i think hairy armpits are unhygenic" or something like that.

For this comment, they got jumped by easily over 70PEOPLE WITH 100 REPLIES!

Literally everyone assuming the worst of this person's statement, being rude as hell and being damn pushy about it. I was so flabbergasted by how rude people were over this simple statement that i actually took screenshots, here are a few of them (none of them are altered btw they're copied word for word);

@ke*****: then why arent we telling hairy men to shave if ts so unhygenic *crying emoji* Like hello we all have hair as long as you wash up properly it doesn't matter

@ang*****: is it unhygenic for men? (This person was one of the pushiest it was so annoying)

@do******: only for women tho, huh?

@its********: Using your logic, everyone should be bald, too since it harbors oil, bacteria, and dirt. Unless you're not washing it properly, you can be hygenic and still have armpit hair. You just wash it like you would with any other hair.

@as******: Men can have armpit hair But women can't because it's considered unhygenic??? Make it make sense

@ur******: child toucher

@sh****: then shave your own armpits? if hair grows there naturally, its not unhygenic you just like little girls

@nat*****: okay then shave your pits and mind your own business.

Mind you, there's a bit over a hundred of these. Are people crazy? Not even the author has been half as rude, they just replied "no, hairy armpits are hot".

First of all, this person gave their own opinion. Obviously an opinion can hurt communities by pushing ideas we're trying to fight away, but this comment wasnt rooted in misogyny or pedophilia like people are so happily, proudly assuming it is. This was literally someone giving away their own harmless opinion because, well, that's what comment sections are for.

How would I know?

In this video and the caption that goes with it, no age, nor genders were mentionned. Was this person supposed to find another video of a dude talking about hairy armpits just to not get called a pedophile or a misogynist? Second of all, we're specifically talking about armpits, so this person wasn't calling unhygenic body hair as a whole, just armpits hairs.

(Also because this person was, understandably so, trying to make people understand that this wasn't directed at any group in particular.)

There are literally 5mins long videos available online for free explaining how armpits odor works. I don't remmeber it completely, but bacteria thrives on heat and humidity, which both can be enhanced by armpits hairs. Not to mention, armpit skin has the highest amount of bacteria in our entire body and beyond a surface level, so washing only partially do the job.

Also, comparing armpits hair to the rest of body hairs is beyond ridiculous, as the body is borderline build to stink on the armpits. If you had puberty that's just how your body is wired, apocrine sweat glands develop at puberty which's produced sweat contains protein and fats, which is what bacterias in your armpits feed on and that's what develops the nasty odor. Also, the rest of the body's hair isn't exposed to the same conditions as armpits.

Even if you don't wanna know about how body works and why armpits are more prone to odor and bacteria piling up, just think of something as simple as deodorant..? if there's a barrier between the product and the skin, i promise you that your deodorant or anti perspirant is NOT working, as it doesn't have proper access to the sweat glands. It doesn't have to be specifically body hairs, it can be something as silly as water, lotion, powder, anything.

So while you can definitely choose not to shave your armpits hairs, since no one is forcing you, calling people who want to put the most chances on their side to be hygenic pedophiles or misogynists isn't okay. There's nothing wrong with shaving armpits just like there's nothing wrong with not shaving armpits, people just do what suits them best. So when people give their opinion because of what fits them best, it's not a reason to insult them to such extent.

And if you agree with them and those kinds of insults, you need to put that device down, go outside and take a deep breath of air, because coming across people with different opinions that are just as harmless as yours is normal, and that is called living in society.

Also small edit: somsone added on top of it all that wanting shaved armpits was related to pedophilia because it was a sign of physical maturity, you develop armpits hair at puberty, and you can hit puberty while being a child. Children can have armpits hair, coming from somsone who had hairy armpits as a child from early puberty and who has met many people who had an early puberty and hairy armpits as a child. I personally dont think I would've been fine with somsone calling my body mature by looking at my armpits while I didn't even have two digits on my age, but that's just me.

im shocked that they were even defending what the original post said... usually instagram is an echo chamber for weird men who want their "women" to basically be children.

i do agree the way they all jumped to conclusions in the replies was crazy but i dont fully blame them... it sounds like the kind of thing said men above would say.

oh, that makes an itty bitty bit more sense. I personally spend my life on ig but don't often come across that type of people.

It's an Instagram comment section. It's just like that sometimes, people there love their sparring matches. It's kinda like Twitter just with less malicious intent and more shitposty in nature. Notice how they mentioned something that was never said and form an entire point based on what they fabricated instead of what was said - classic Insta arguer tactic.

For example I once saw a reel showing a cartoon character driving a car that appeared to be a manual. He slammed on the brakes, foot to the floor, didn't clutch. In cartoon logic, the car never stalled. I made a funny comment about how he slammed on the brakes and didn't clutch. It got a lot of likes, some comments debating it being a manual car, and the last few comments were people saying stuff like "you don't have to clutch every time you brake" or "you don't need to press one to press the other", both of which are correct but both of which I never said. If you go around the platform and look at comments regularly, you'll notice that's a common thing that happens most of the time lol. Try not to let it get to you

tbh i spend a lot of times online so people arguing and talking about things that werent even mentionned isn't much new to me, but first they were so pushy with their own assumptions, like there was this one person who was probably asking around 5 or 6 questions with assumptions just to try to make them look like a horrible person, second literally everybody was agreeing with this nonsense and jumping a single person to repeat the same thing, and last with the recent news it's quite annoying and frustrating to see such comments being thrown around. That's what really annoyed me

I understand, and it can be pretty annoying. Unfortunately this is just how a lot of Instagram users are lmao. I've seen dudes reach far enough to dislocate a shoulder simply trying to 'ragebait'. A lot of those people have taken the art of trolling and turned it into an Olympic sport full of tryhards. I believe what they're doing there in your original post is called a strawman argument, which there's plenty of those online and in person, but you'll find that stuff a lot on that platform specifically. It's something I started noticing checking every comment section I ran across. There's always that one person either totally misunderstanding the post or another comment in order to try and instigate fights. Always.

lol geez. The internet is wild. The funny thing is, the person was probably talking about their own personal grooming opinion for their own body. Even if they weren't?? omg who cares?

People can have a preference. I've heard women and men say they will not date a man with a beard because they think it's unhygienic. People are allowed to prefer and not prefer things.

Yep, and it's valid even though I personally have a beard and don't understand the logic behind it. Tbf though, I'm also not trying to ragebait people by playing dumb. The only people who care are those trying to get a reaction out of those individuals, as much as they may claim otherwise.

The fortunate thing about insta, like I said, is that it is usually more shitposty in nature with these types of things. People just do it for fun, because they think pissing you off and getting under your skin is funny (Which let's be real here, sometimes when executed well it can be. Just not in this example). It's not like Twitter and its alternatives where dudes do it because they feed off drama and negative energy, and on average actually mean ill intent.
