The reactor's power was slowly cut for the test. The workers disabled safety systems and would run the reactor at low power. Because of the aforementioned flawed design...the reactor quickly grew incredibly unstable.
The workers were confused. Many of them were far to young and inexperienced with their positions and the event. As the reactor grew dangerously unstable, a worker would press a button and shut the reactor down.
The shutdown would result in a massive power surge. And the world famous meltdown would ensue. Changing the world forever.
