raidou (remastered, and SMT devil summoner)

man.... i don't even know where to begin with this one. I started playing the original up til chapter 2, then my partner and I starting playing raidou remastered together. for my first SMT and atlus game I think it is pretty solid. my biggest gripe so far with the original is how numerous the random encounters are. in the remaster they made it so the enemies spawn in the field, and only in certain areas. that made more sense to me, i felt as if the random encounters interrupted the walking around and talking to people segments of the game too much for my liking. especially since you have you summon demons so much in the overworld to use their abilities on NPCs

something i also really enjoy about the remaster is the overhauled battle system. in exchange of the elemental bullets in the original they give raidou elemental long range attacks and sword limit breaks. you can also have two demons on the battlefield instead of one, and you also share a mana bar with your demons. your sword attacks recharge this bar, as do your now infinite bullets. in the original, every demon had its own mana bar and raidou was left with a big MAG bar that was just used for summoning demons. whether that be in the overworld or in battle. it felt kind of useless because you start out with so much, and you always regain a certain amount after battle. so, for the most part it was always full, and just left me wondering why summoning demons isn't just free lol. the only situation i can see you running out of MAG is if you're just rapid summoning demons all battle.

the story so far is neat! raidou comes from a long line of devil summoners that protect the capital of japan. he is apprenticing at a detective agency and working with this guy named narumi. youre investigating a kidnapping, and there are soulless zombies with swords lol. also rasputin is a character? there's a lot going on so far, i have no idea how far i am at this point. another thing to note, this also takes place in the 1930s, so there was a weird decision made in the original. in one section of the capital, the street was lined with imperial japanese flags. they censored this in the remake to just be japanese national flags. Good Choice, Frankly.

to end on a good note, i fucking love the soundtrack. it has been stuck in my head for a couple weeks now. shoji meguro does the soundtrack for all of atlus's games from my understanding. persona's music is great, so its no wonder this soundtrack is also great lol. I think i just love jazz fusion in general, it makes me want to pick up my electric guitar again. I haven't played in so long because i literally do not have an amp, or an audio interface.
