''I have appeared to seal the evil born of darkness, I am Phantom Thief Jeanne, sent down before you by God!''✧❀☆

Did you know that the show ''Miraculous'' should've been an anime? Did you also know that before we had Miraculous, we had its bigger and mature sister Phantom Thief Jeanne, or in Japanese, Kamikaze Kaitō Jeanne. Both stories are pretty similar: A girl student that gets great, decades-old powers with the help of a little creature. Both have a complicated (love) story to a male character in the show, who has equivalent abilities as them. And they don't know about it. Or do they?
But I am not here to talk about Miraculous. Phantom Thief Jeanne is a great story about Maron Kusakabe and her journey. She lives her teenage school life at day while fighting the forces of evil as her alter-ego Jeanne, a reincarnation of the French national hero Jeanne d'Arc, at night. She has her little semi-angel (jun-tenshi), Finn Fish, that helps her turn into her. Her biggest opponent is Chiaki Nagoya, aka. Sinbad. But in Marons daily school life, he plays the role of the romantic lead. He is cocky, confident, kinda narcissistic, very charming and Maron Kusakabe caught his eye. She doesn't care about him - in contrary to her best friend Miyako Todaiji, who has a huge crush on Chiaki. Kusakabe and Todaiji are like two poles of the same planet, they couldn't be more different. While Maron is a free spirit, Miyako always obeys the rules and is a true sheriff in Kusakabes life. In a good way, cause opposites attract. What they do have in comon is their great sense of justice. Just like her father, who is a police officer, Miyakos biggest goal is to arrest the phantom thief Jeanne and make her atone for her ''crimes''. Jeanne captures demons by checkmating them. With a pawn, not in actual chess lmao. The problem here is that the object, posessed by the demon, disappears after that ritual, which is the reason why Jeanne is misunderstood as a thief by the people - and by Todaiji.

I like how you see two perspectives of Marons life: The school gal and the badass agent at night. Before Jeanne attacks, she has to send the person who is posessed by the object - that is posessed by the demon - a calling card. You see where I am going with this. It pretty much reminds me of Persona 5. Phantom thiefs that fight for the peoples good but get misunderstood by them. I like that. The anime is kinda religious, since she operates in the name of god and is a religious figure. I like the way Jeanne transforms, fights and checkmates her opps. The animations are so cool, even if it is an anime from the 2000s. A critique I have to give is that I don't like the relationship between Maron and her semi-angel Finn. Maron mocks her the whole time and can get really mean towards her. Chiaki is, if you insist, the hottest 2D man I've ever seen, omfg. He is so well written and an absolute pervert. Maron hates him in the beginning, but their relationship gets sooooo good in the end. Bonus: they LIVE NEXT TO EACH OTHER.
I hope you enjoyed my review about the anime Phantom Thief Jeanne. I really recommend it to everyone since it's such a good show, but kinda unknown. As always, everything was written by me and I never used AI. Only the internet to search up synonyms for a smooth writing. Thx!
