I love speedrunning. I used to speedrun two particular games which I'm going to omit since I did it under my real name. I loved it. I briefly held a world record because of it, me and my friends to be exact...but that was 5 years ago. Why haven't I done it since? Simple, my time has shifted elsewhere.
Like I said, I used to speedrun two games. The first game took about two and a half hours while the other game took five and a half hours to finish. This is the main reason I haven't returned to speedrunning despite it being such a joy of mine. While I could speedrun something quicker, the whole reason why I stuck to two games is because I enjoyed them immensely and they were both technically and mechanically quite involved.
Mission manipulations, exploits, resource management, coordination, it's a mix of everything I wanted it to be. So why haven't I done it in so long? Time. These were long speedruns, a single bad split could kill a run especially in a five and a half hour long run with little optimization.
Life's changed since 2021, I'm just about to finish my first year of university, I'm the primary care-taker of my mother, I'm about to start a job over the break...I don't have the free time I used to have when I was speedrunning.
I miss it.
