If you can't tell by now, I really liked this new album. I like everything about it, the concept, the themes, THE SONGS, the collabs, this is their most cohesive sound in years. And I say that in terms of a well-executed album concept, I love Humanz and Song Machine, but they're lacking in that aspect.
It deeps down about death and grief, not in a depressing way, but by celebrating the lives of those who stay, a reminder to live. You probably know this because I've seen it a few times in some articles, but if you didn't know, both Damon and Jamie lost their parents during the production of the album, 10 days apart.
The plus that I find in this record is the full absorption of Indian culture, throughout listening to the album you can hear sounds of Tabla, Sitar, Bansuri and Sarod, which are classic Indian instruments. The vision of death as a transition, not as the end, it's well portrayed. It's about breaking the cycle and reach liberation, I think that's very beautiful.
I didn't know all these things, this album made me research about it. That's the whole point, embracing different cultures at an atomic level, living them and not just mentioning them briefly (like I did in this review, sorry).
Listen to the album! (click the image)
And that's it! Sorry if this review was short, you should listen to the album yourselves to form your own opinion. Also I can't think for more than 5 seconds, so... see ya!
My fav tracks are Orange Country, The Empty Dream Machine, Damascus and The Sad God.
