Outer Dark

I had never read anything by McCarthy before, and I can’t say whether this was the right place to start.

That said: the prose feels needlessly convoluted, the plot is devoid of substance, and the overall development borders on nonsensical. There are two protagonists, and with at least one of them it’s virtually impossible to establish any empathy. The symbolism seems arbitrary, as if scattered at random rather than meaningfully constructed.

Pick it up only at a discount, and even then, think twice.
