Question regarding Queer characters in the 2000s

Hii! °。⋆𓋼𓍊☆𓍊𓋼⋆。°

So i have recently started to plan out a new story i want to write and i thought i should try smth new by making it take place in the 2000's. I have been thinking and thinking and thinking about this story and then this 'thing' came to my mind:

If a cis hetero man likes the 2000s and picks up abook about people like him in this time he likes he can just enjoy the book about whatever the story is about.

But if a Queer person likes the 2000s and picks up a book about people like them in this time, no matter the story, they are also going to have to read about a lot of hate regarding queer people in this book.

I am aware that this reflects the time the book is set in, but isnt it annoying when you want a book with queer characters and they're always hated, especially in books set in the past?

That's why i wanted to write my book with only very little to no hate on queer people, even tho it is set in the 2000s. I just want queer people to be able to read a book about people like them without having to also navigate a book full of hate regarding them. And also to kinda show an alternate reality, especially to older people, that obviously the world wouldn't have ended if they had been more accepting towards queer people in the 2000s.

So my question here is, is this a good idea? Because i also have a lot of concerns. I think people could get that just very wrong and then rip me to shreds bc they think all im doing is invalidating queer peoples experiences, erasing queer history or just for being unrealistic in portraying this time.

Please tell me what you think about this, because i just don't know.

Let's all be nice to ourselfs and others,

- Lucien ༊*·˚
