So they ended Smiling Friends…

I sound like such a chud but I’m genuinely devastated that it’s over. I just loved the show a lot man. Shit was funny, animation was good, I loved all the niche internet references and spotting voice actors/internet faces I knew. Felt like a time capsule/love letter to the new grounds and early YouTube days.

I feel like we just don’t see a lot of that kind of media anymore, the kind that encapsulates that feeling so well. It’s a specific feeling to me I guess. A form of nostalgia I can’t quite place. It’s like when the internet was a separate place from reality completely and everything was something new and thought of by a real person.

I don’t know I really believe in dead internet theory yet but the show ending did put me in a weird place of “so what is supposed to happen for other shows that try to do this?” Will they just look like a copy-and-paste ripoff? Will they achieve the same feeling and humor? Would anyone even try to recreate smiling friends in the way it is?

I just think it’s a really creative and divisive show artistically and I’m really sad to see it go for now. Huge bummer.
