some people are their own worst enemies

What I mean by that title is that some people don't recognize just how much they love to wallow in their own suffering. It does sound weird to say someone enjoys to suffer more, but that is what I see - it is an addicting thing. You gaslight yourself so much into thinking that everything is horrible, things will never get better, everyone around you is an asshole. And what do we get? A constant whine fest. And i get it. I was in the same position when i was way younger. I had reasons to suffer, but I also didn't want to get better, suffering was... comforting in a way. It's the same problem for me essentially as the forced positivity, of which i mentioned in my blog earlier.
You lose all your friends, you blame them for abandoning you, but you never stop and think that as much as they want to see you get better, you do jack shit to change anything in your life. You think being happy is cringe. You think getting help or even self help is something shameful. And you don't realize how much you exhaust everyone around you, no matter how grand and important your problem really is. WE are responsible for how we deal with out suffering - no one else will do it for you if you won't do it for you. No one owes you pity. No one owes you their time if you drain them mentally. It's all in your power to say fuck you to your own issues and start dragging yourself out of the mess. The rest will follow.

i think most people are their own worst enemies.

they get addicted to going down the path of painful thoughts, those neural pathways get locked in to the point where it just feels natural do think those thoughts whenever they get bored

hell, even a lot of people who believe they are happy think this way

And I completely understand that. However, i am a firm believer that all of us are able to learn to take control of such thoughts. Indeed, it is very natural and easy to be miserable. But why let it easily win over you?
And for those who struggle to see the reason why they should do that, I say, it is everyone's individual choice, BUT we only have one body, one brain and one life. There is no reason to not try and make your life situation a bit more pleasant.

people oft take the path of least resistance, even if it is the road to hell

it takes insight and self-awareness to be able to step away from self-induced misery, i find that too often people are living on auto-pilot

in order to fight for happiness, one must first be aware that there is a fight
