Owning physical media turned into overconsumption.

I don't even think this is a hot take, but it's one that I think about when walking into music shops and bookstores. I often see HUNDREDS of variants of a single book/ vinyl/ CD. I think it's absolutely insane to have over 10 different variants of a single album. What do you mean you need the green, yellow, red, and neon beige colors of an vinyl THAT YOU STREAM ONLINE. Don't get me wrong, I collect books and cd's. However, there comes a point where people are not even owning it because they'll use it, They're buying it just to say they have it in their collection. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO ARTISTS WHO RELEASE 10 MILLION VARIANTS BECAUSE THEY'RE MONEY HUNGRY.

it feels like any sort of interest nowadays can be twisted in an abomination of overconsumption. they own so many items for the sake of collecting, rather than actually enjoying even 51% of them. even if they do actually consume it, they just want to burning through them and tossing them to the side when the next thing comes a long. they're more like content consumers than actual thoughtful audiences

Not only vinyl, but CDS, iPODS, game consoles, etc!!

Everything, from music, to crotchet, to painting, e v e r y t h i n g, it's becoming a trend. You buy the things, you make an astethic video and/or try to do something, it comes off bad because they are just learning, drop that hobbie, let tik tok recommend you another one, and repeat.

It's so frustrating

Def turned out this way once it became a trend to own vinyls, if you wanna own your music without contributing to the bloated physical media market I recommend Bandcamp!
