Part 7 of my series in which I listen to a random music genre and rate it after listening!
This part is a little different than the other parts because yesterday Dr. Freeman requested me to check out "2 Tone"! Considering this genre is always the first alphabetically to be on any genre list, I have heard of it before but I'm happy to check it out properly. In the late 70s in the UK, the second wave of Ska hit the scene. Combining Punk Rock and the classic Jamaican Ska to create an edgier version of Ska.
The first 2 Tone groups were The Specials and The Selecter, other popular ones included Madness and The Beat. I was recommended to listen to The Specials and Madness specifically. What I noticed first about the 2 Tone genre is that most music albums are simplistic, monochrome and only using black and white. It's a very recognizable visual style!

Listening to this music, I notice a lot of guitar usage and somewhat chaotic drumming every now and then. But mostly the music is relaxed and doesn't really put you on edge. It does have that ska feeling you would get from listening to any other kind of ska music... I personally really enjoy the harmonies that they put into the vocals.
Madness has a much more sentimental and sad sounding style than The Specials in my opinion, which does make me favor them slightly. I like emotional melodies and lyrics. I have yet to listen to a lot of Ska genres, so this being my first doesn't disappoint me all too much!
Sadly I must admit, I don't enjoy the yelling singing type of vocal or the repetitive guitar strumming. It's just not really my style, but I like the songs Madness creates. So I respect the style, but it's not my thing! Sorri!
5/10

I absolutely love two-tone ska and it's my literal favourite genre ever!! I'm glad that you checked it out :]
I dress two-tone as well, that's how much I love it.
It's ironic cause My Girl is one of my favourite Madness songs :P
Do you mean dress two tone like dressing in black and white or in the actual style the musicians wore? I dont know what style it is, I think the description i was reading mentioned the mod style?
