It all started when we had a project in class where we had to divide into teams and do a play, so I did it with my friends, there were 8 of us.
Let's call them Kiki, Dora, Anna, Karla, Dami, Gene and Alex.
So Kiki and Dora started talking among themselves about what play we could do, and then they told the rest of us about it. The main idea was about a recently deceased person traveling through Mictlan (the underworld in Mexica mythology), meeting different characters at each level until reaching the last one, where he would meet the god Mictlantecuhtli and ne given the opportunity to come back to life. We were all so excited for the idea bcs it was really original and all that, we all even made character sheets for our characters then and there with very GOOD stories. All character were from different timelines, with a lot of parallels. For example: My character was a 16 year old boy who lived in poberty during 2000's, he was sick of that life so he started doing crimes and all that, always saying he was doing that to help his family overcome that life of precariety but he was actually doing all that bcs he felt like he deserved something better than that, even if a part of himself was feeling guilty for all the bad things he do (he died bcs he ended up talking too much, so the criminal organization threw him to the dogs). The parallel of my character is my friend's Dami, wich was a 17 year old boy living during the Porfiriato (I think). From what I remember about his character was that he had an older brother whom the police accused of a crime and the boy had to get some money to get his brother out of jail, and the easiest way of earning money was with crimes. He felt REALLY guilty but he needed the money for his brother. At the end the criminals thought he said too much to the police and drowned him.
The other character were also really good, they're stories were interesting and well done.
Well we had almost everything figured out, including how we would design the scenery for each level of Mictlan. But then the firt problem arrived. We only had one class (40 minutes) to do the whole play bcs another group was going to be the next class (they were 2 classes of the same subject). We talked via messages and agreed to change the story a little, bcs we wouldn't have time to act and change the set at the same time, plus we would have to arrive super early so that Anna could do everyone's makeup. We agreed that instead of it being a journey through Mictlan, it would be a play in wich Mictlantecuhtli judged all those characters, who were now going to be family members (the reason for the trial was that his family were descendants of colonizers), and that the only one who would survive the trial would be the protagoonist's son (the main character was Dora's).
Everything was going well. We had already thought about the set design, the costumes, the makeup, etc. UNITL they started telling me that I couldn't play MY CHARACTER well bcs I couldn't be rude. I said fine and swapped characters with Dora, all perfect.
WRONG. Dora and Kiki were in charge of writing the script. They finished it FOUR DAYS BEFORE THE PLAY. Even so, everything was still going well. We just had to learn our lines, bcs Dami, Gene and I already has Alex's costume ready (made from scratch), as well as the rest of the set.
Next bad thing: Dora and I kept switching characters all the time. We also started rehearsals.
At one point, Dora said that our classmates wouldn't take us seriously, and that it would be better to make the play a comedy. We did 2 rehearsals that same day with it as a comedy, and although we had fun, most of us realized that a comedy wouldn't work bcs Dora's humor is very... outdated and somewhat cringe, wich would make our classmates laugh at us, not with us.
Soon we (Dami, Gene and I) began to notice that the others (except Alex) didn't seem to wanto to continue rehearsing, bcs they were doing it half-heartedly, as if we were forcing them, I gave Dora ideas for the plya, and she responded rudely, telling me to tell Gene instead when SHE CLEARLY SAID WE COULD TELL HER THE IDEAS. That same day (ONE DAY BEFORE THE PLAY), they told us that they didn't want to continue with that play, that we should change it to Alice in wonderland instead. Dami, Gene and I didn't get angry about his, although we should have been bcs they changed everything the day before, when we already had the sets and costumes for the other play, and now we would have to throw all that away bcs we would never use it. We rehearsed once that day and made a whole list of things we would take and who would take them the next day so we wouln't forget anything. Gene had to find a blonde wig and a Alice's blue dress in just a few hours.
The next day on my way to school I realized I had forgotten something and had to ask my DAD to bring it to me so as not to ruin the play. We had little time to get ourselves and the "stage" ready, so Anna started doing our makeup, starting with Dora, then Kiki, then Karla, me, and finally Alex. While she was doing the others' makeup, I was obviously running around helping set up the stage, bcs NO ONE was helping Gene and Dami (I forgot to mention that the three of us even did the new set by ourselves) when they were doing nothing. When it was my turn for makeup, Anna rushed through it and did such a bad job that Dami and Gene had to fix it. Alex's was even worse; he looked hypothermic instead of like a blue caterpillar.
A few seconds before the play began, we realized that Karla hadn't brought her white glovesm wich were an important part of two of my scenes, so in the end I had to improvise.
The play wasn't nice at all, there were too many mistakes. Kiki just talked instead of acting, Dora and Karla forgot almost all their lines (even Gene, the main character, learned her lines), and we looked stupid. EVEN I, WITH ALL MY MEMORY AND MEMORIZATION PROBLEMS HAD LEARNED MY LINES.
When the play ended we were all angry, and rightly so. After that day they holidays began, so we didn't see each other for a whole month. When we returned to school Dora, Kiki, Karla and Anna ignored us completely and started acting like jerks (they were already hypocrites before).
This is how my group of 8 became 4.
