So, we got a problem, I feel. Spacehey is wonderful but ive noticed an influx of art scammers and creeps. Ive been considering making a beware list of people to ideally block or refuse if seen which ill out publicly. Dont harass, just block and or report.
HOW THEY OPERATE
So, theres a few versions of these scams.
The most worrying one are sweatshops for underrage underpaid kids...
They have a few accounts as a front where some guy is usually tasked of messaging people.Step one, they usually try to pass as a girl to make sure to "look safer".
Theyre easy to spot because theyre very bad at conversation, they almost immediately pivot to showing a commission page because they dont know how to interact on any kind of nerdy topics. They also have generic names like "Lily", "Emma" or "Sarah" and have a gigantic friend list with premade or stolen profile layouts from other users (Yes if youre one of these fuckass scammers im talking about you directly). Another way to tell theyre not a real artist is that they have NO PERSONAL ART, NO OCS, NO MEANINGFUL FANART that isnt traced or heavily referenced from other people's work, their socials follow generally no real artists and sometimes follow AI accounts. They have no art of theirs, no personal touch anywhere. They also tend front as a kind of brand on their socials, sometimes with AI generated descriptions.
Step two, when you refuse the commission, they will try to guilt trip you with some kind of fake "medical emergency" for a family member or a pet. They will also beg a lot. If it doesnt work, they might pivot to the gooner route and try to ask about "spicy stuff" or "how you look". They want to connect to guilt trip you.
Step 3, if someone caves in, what happens is... They take the money and hire kids to draw for an absolute slave wage if not tracing or using AI. They get paid 2$ for complete works sometimes, they tend to have ridiculous deadlines too. Theses people make 99% of the profit with their farms young artists who are minors who dont know better. You see them on Vgen, you see them on discord and apparently discord isnt exempt. As an artist, i stumble accross them constantly since I advertise in commission servers. The difference between them and most real artist is that they dont show their art anywhere, they show a faceless "brand" which again is

I cannot stress how infuriating i find this.The alternate version of that has them use generative AI, which is less bad BUT still bad nonetheless.

Tbf, if you act creepy you lowkey deserve it though.) Went straight to dming me, asking question like I was being interviewed while ofc saying nothing about themselves. Immediately went to fetch my discord and throw me some bulshit behance link. Like the 50 thousand other discord art scammers. 🙄
