2/19/2026 (asking for advice? rant?)

I'm gonna use todays blog to ask for some advice. Or just rant. IDK.
So, I just transferred to a new university. I came from a small liberal arts college that was nice, but honestly really suffocating. I could feel myself getting stagnant there -- I hated the town, there wasn't much to do, and I felt like the only reason I'd want to stay was to make my girlfriend and friends happy. So yeah, I transferred to a bigger SEC state school, and so far its been really great. The only things I genuinely miss are my girlfriend and just ... knowing where everything is. 
Anyway. My birthday is next week. February 28th, a Saturday. The problem is that a big chunk of my friends are still back in my old college town. I could invite them all up here, except most of them don't have a fake ID -- and unlike their town, where there are like two bars and they're both 18+, the bars here actually card. So that's already a barrier. And even if that wasn't an issue, I have one bed and one couch. I'd be inviting like 7-8 people. I'm not making my friends sleep on the floor. 
So here's my current plan: Friday might (the night before my actual birthday), I have a chill hangout at my place here with the 2-3 friends I've made so far. Maybe go out after. Then Saturday, I drive back down to my old college town (it's only a 1 1/2 hour drive) and celebrate with my other friends at my girlfriends apartment -- pre-approved, obviously. 
My only nervousness about Friday is that I literally just met these people. What if they think its lame that my birthday hang is that small? But then again, I only just got here, so what am I supposed to do.
Am I overcomplicating this? Part of me thinks I should just do one thing in my old college town and call it a day. But I genuinely love it here and I want to actually do something in my new city. I think I can have both. We'll see.
