Not sure if this will help but this layout editor is really helpful as you dont have to change your main code on spacehey again and again and then hit refresh and then load it up. I used this and when I was finally happy i copied the code on to this spacehey account. It saved me some time.
Also its supposed to be fun so dont stress out. Take your time. I have seen people with the coolest profiles ever and people with boring plain and empty ones too.

If u want to do something completely on your own it is probably going to be Too much time consuming, and you'll also have to learn a lot of css and html on your own. My profile took me more than 24h in total and I still copy pasted a lot of others layouts.
The easiest way to get a really costumized layout that is not that time consuming might be browsing for things and modifying them a little bit just to be how u want them.
Also I strongly recommend this CSS Manual as it helps a lot in explaining how everything works.

Also, I don't know about videos cause I didn't try them, but I find helpful to look at others code and try to understand what every piece does, like looking at a puzzle.

ill be honest i get it can be very overwhelming i personally resorted to taking bits of code i like and its very time consuming but i think at the end of the day its so worth it. def take a break tho i did after many of my codes broke and it was far to much for me to deal with.. your layout is so pretty btw i cant wait to see how it turns out when you finish it ^_^
