i've always liked unusual stuff like jack staubers adult swim shorts or the smile guide so i thought i would enjoy analog horror. the whole concept is kind of similar to those weirdcore/dreamcore videos from 2023 mixed with some uncanny valley and cosmic horror. which is all stuff that i like. but every single analog horror video i have watched is just plain boring and not scary at all. but maybe i just dont know where to find good analog horror.
Β anyway at the moment i think ill stick to rewatching the smile guide over and over.

I think the problem is a lot of them basically follow a checklist of genre tropes that have already been treaded and retreaded in other similar works a hundred times over at this point. There's a lot that don't really try to innovate in the genre, or do so cheaply. I think the best ones you'll find will probably be older; the ones that established the tropes that later analog horror would copy again and again like a set of rules that need to be followed. Or maybe it just still isn't interesting, and that's fine.

How is something on the internet that you can watch for free a "scam"?
i called it a scam cuz im a clickbaiter at heart. you see, back in middleschool i used to be the BEST at selling the most useless stuff at school fairs. i always made up the most batshit insane backstory for every single item on my stand. one time i even convinced some 4th grader that the overpriced jelly i was selling was actually 100% vegan. yeah yeah i know what youre gonna say. i was a fucking asshole for doing that. i know i get it. im not proud of the things ive done in middleschool. i was a dirty little scammer. and sometimes i still catch myself being a what other boomers like me back in the day would call a "troll". its in my nature. i just... cant help it, you know? dont overthink it.

i think at least part of the issue is that people tend to assume analog horror (and horror in general honestly but especially analog) is a βcheapβ form of story-based content (in an effort sense, not a monetary oneβsome of the best horror iβve ever seen was made with almost no budget) completely disregarding how difficult it is to make something both scary and intriguing enough to keep you hooked. itβs sort of like how people who are able to make their friends laugh think they could do stand-up comedy without any practice or studying what makes a good joke. there definitely is good analog horror out there but itβs kind of an oversaturated genre because so many people try to do it without really doing any research, getting feedback, etc.
i know this is about videos but if youβre interested in analog horror games as well iβd recommend browsing itch.io, thereβs tons of free indie horror games and iβve played quite a few good ones (and bad ones, but at least theyβre entertaining lol) iβd be willing to bet theyβve got some decent analog horror buried in there!

In my experience, analog horror is usually better in video game form. (I can give u some recomendations if u want.)
I think the reason analog horror videos are so ass is because they focus a lot on the horror aspect of it so it turns out to be more of a horror movie situation where is not scary but they spam u with jumpscares.
So, usually videogames have a better chance of being more fun, first because is kinda a niche genre, and second because you require more than just a editing app to make a videogame.
yeah that would be nice. but i hope these games are affordable cuz im a bit short of money.
