ramadan mubarak to all the muslims out there, take some time to read this if you can
a beautiful month and time for blessings, improvement, worship, connection to your Creator. not just a month, but an opportunity. a chance that comes once a year, but can change your whole life. in this month, the gates of mercy are opened, sins are erased, and the reward for good deeds is multiplied. but this blessed month has enemies, robbers who come unnoticed and take away the most valuable things. if you do not stop them and let them pass, ramadan will go away, leaving only emptiness and regret.
here are some of these things:
- gadgets and social networks. you picked up your phone for a minute and lost an hour. went to the feed and lost the night which could be used for activities like reading the quran, remembrance, prayer.
- aimless conversations and arguments. about politics, people, anything - except what will bring benefit.
- excessive food. iftar turns into a feast, after which only heaviness remains. instead of taraweeh - sleep. instead of worship - fatigue.
- sleep until noon. you could get up, perform the morning prayer, supplicate, read quran, but you sleep through the morning mercy. as you sleep, others earn a reward
- laziness and procrastination. "i'll read more tomorrow," "i'll start later tonight.." but the day passes, then the next one, now ramadan is ending, and you haven't started
- useless entertainment. tv series, movies, games - everything that you can live without, but that stealthily steals your time, taking it away from benefit and worship.
- irritation and anger. "i'm fasting, that's why i'm nervous!" - but doesn't fasting teach patience? the devils are bound, but the passions of man are not. don't let passions ruin your fast.
- shopping, hustle and bustle. some people spend ramadan in worship, while others spend it in queues buying things they can do without. time spent on endless shopping can never be returned - plan it for another time.
now, it's important to make an intention to become better and spend it to the fullest during this time. connect with close people that are really important to you and bring each other closer to God, try to be more patient with others and use good words and actions. focus on the good things, regain faith and don't put all the pressure into painful or unfortunate matters in life. see the goodness around you and try to overlook mistakes and possibly irritating cases. learn more about the religion, attempt to see yourself in a month from now, at the end, so that you look at yourself by that time and are unable to recognize yourself, how much you've changed as a person for the better.
sometimes when we fast, our thoughts can be full of food, delicious dishes, chocolate cakes, fruits, etc.. but don't let those thoughts occupy you constantly. we are hungry, but don't let the hungriness wipe away your other thought processes on worship, benefit, God, your life. think about the rewards you will receive for this fast, think about how you can utilize this day to be beneficial but not boring, full but not useless. view everything from a different perspective, at least for this month, and see how it changes you

not a muslim (anymore) but uhh can i fast just for the sole purpose of losing weight or is that haram or günah or whatever its called
people do fast for health reasons, fasting periodically on its' own can be good

also uhh trust me this actually happened
went to the mosque with my friends just for shits and giggles on the last friday of 2025
and the guy that talks or whatever literally said
"celebrating new years is haram"
is that any true

the whole thing on its' own is not, like all the attributes of putting up a tree and type stuff would be haram but if you're just looking forward to a good new year and trying to have some fun on that last day i don't think it's necessarily wrong

i think the whole "putting up a tree" thing became so globalized that its not even about religion anymore
cant see why that would be haram now

that's true, it has basically lost its' religious meaning and people just use it as an attribute for celebration without anything to do with beliefs nowadays
it does have polytheistic roots even if it's not currently associated with it much anymore, hence why muslims try steering away from it mostly
i can understand where you're coming from though
