I’ve been heavily exposed to social media for most of my young adult life. These are the changes I think it has made to my brain.
I cannot watch full length movies anymore and understand the whole story about it.
I used to be genuinely amazed by creative choices...a certain shot, a shift in lighting, the rhythm of a scene. My brain has an ability to be amazed and be astonished to seen these creative styles. I miss the time when there's a space in my brain to take it in.
I cannot read a news article or anything written without a picture or illustration in it
I used to read really long news articles, long blog posts and let it marinate in my brain and think about it and savor it. Now, when I see a dense paragraph, it registers as noise. For a second, it’s just a wall of text. And that frustrates me. I have consumed literature in my life on a regular basis but what is going on?
It’s hard for me to think deeply without a screen in front of me.
When I'm staring at a screen it's hard for me to introspect and have a little self inventory with myself. I thought it was just a poor attention span or something, but I don't think it is it's more than that.
For sure this is a burn out and I hope it is. My brain's cognitive ability is not on a decline because I'm aware of what is happening. I'm hoping for anyone who reads this will learn and not to fry their brains on the three major apps and you know them well. I feel like I have fried my brain and I haven't created anything like a drawing, painting or anything organically creative. The internet will always be loud. But your inner world deserves silence and it deserves to be bigger than your feed.
When life become an endless scroll.

Been in the same boat. Seems like the only things you see anymore are whats being spoonfed to you whether you like it or not... and more ads than actual human interaction
