Genre: Powerviolence/Grindcore
Standout track: Give Me The Keys
It took me longer to type out this demos title than it did for the entire record to start and finish xD Rumbling, hatchet-sharp and thoroughly fucked-off sounding hardcore music with two bassists, no guitarist, and utterly beastly vocals. The perfect ear-pillow for bad thoughts to scream into.
Polar Sleep, Spark
Genre: Indie/Bedroom Pop/Synth Pop
Standout track: The Answer
Gorgeous collection of crystalline, smart and oddly optimistic indietronic pop songs from a husband and wife duo named Brittney and Jared Palick. Upbeat without being sickly-sweet, romantic without being gauche, it's a welcome reminder that it's sometimes okay for a grim old evil music bastard like me to listen to something pleasant :3
Chicaloyoh, Porte Dévergondée
Genre: Alternative/Experimental
Standout track: La Folle en Costume de Folie
Our Gallic friends sure know how to conjure up some surreal atmosphere, and the genre-defying musician Alice Dourlen is no exception. Reminding me at turns of Björk, Current 93, Bohren & der Club of Gore, Trevor Wishart, and far too many artists to cite here - my initial listening to this gave me a really strange anachronistic feeling, of itinerant affairs between different musical aesthetics and startlingly awkward clashing of times and places. It's jazzy and folksy, naïve and knowing, all at once, and it's great!
