hey, I'm a student in the US (not telling what part of the US so I don't doxx myself) but here's a short list of some problems both with students and teachers that I have noticed (and some stories behind them) :3
1) no actions behind teachers blatantly breaking rules
ok so two stores for this but story 1 I had a teacher who we're gonna call Ms. M so one day I was on the bus with my friend and she told me "oh did you hear Ms. M hit a kid" and I was expecting her to get fired or something (cuz this wasn't the first time that she was a fucking horrible teacher during class, but this was one of the worst) and guess what happened..... NOTHING and now my little sister is at my school sharing basically horror sorties of what she's doing lol and story 2 another teacher who I'ma call Ms. L and one day during class another one of my friends were telling me about how she had a picture shared on my teachers insta and not even like 5 mins later I heard my name being called by Ms. L and I looked up and I heard "oh should I round up or down C10V3R's grade" and then I heard a bunch of boys (who were her favs even tho they were yapping in class all the time) and they said "oh round down their grade they're smart they'll get it back up" (last week of the quarter btw...) so I reported that teacher for SHAREING MY QUIZ RESULTS DURING CLASS and then NOTHING HAPPENED oh and I also found out Ms. L had a picture of me on her insta too EVEN THO ME AND MY PARENTS DIDN'T SAY SHE COULD TAKE PHOTOS OF US cuz where I am you have to get special permission for that
2) students saying slurs and no actions from teachers
so I was in gym one day and me and my friends were just sitting out because we were waiting our turns and then this guy who I caught saying the r-slur earlier that day and he called one of my friend's friend the f-slur (not saying what he said bc I don't think I should be saying ts on SPACEHEY) and so there was a teacher IN EARSHOT and noting happened (not the first time a guy has said a slur in earshot of a teacher btw...)
3) little sick days
so as a human I get sick sometimes (not too often luckily) but I saw this poster that went "you only get 18 unexcused absences, be sure to email @blablabla.gmail.com" (not the actual email obviously) but I see this as a bit of a problem bc when I'm sick the only energy I have for thing is getting my ass up to eat and doing like 0.001% of hw, much less fucking EMAIL MY SCHOOL and both my parents work and my abuela is not too great for tech. also 18 SICK DAYS FOR 180 DAYS OF SCHOOL??? REALLY???
4) required courses that revolve around the US
ok as mentioned I am a student in the US and some of my classes are all about the US. 2/3 of the required "history classes" are around the US those two being US history and Government. now I don't have a problem with the government class. I think it's great that there is a class sounded after understanding how our government works so we can yk know how out gov works. My problems start with having US history instead of world history. Now don't get me wrong I like my US history teacher she is a gem of a teacher and is one of the rare cases of a history teacher teaching in a way that I can understand bc my previous teachers just gave packets and that doesn't help me retain info. But I think it'd be more valuable for us to have more world history courses as students.
anyways thanks for reading my yap session as a highschool student in the US feel free to leave your experiences in the comments :D
