SCARLET REVIEW (SPOILERS, BE WARNED)

AAAAAAA!!! Last night was absolutely EPIC!!!! The people that are my friends on discord and in certain servers will know how absolutely jazzed I was as soon as I came out of the theater!!!!
For those of u who aren't my moots or on my friends, I went to go see Scarlet's english dub last night in the theater! The movie is a limited release and marketing hasn't been stellar for the film, but I would definitely say it was worth my time!!!
The theater was absolutely dead, and honestly, me and my responsible adult were the only ones there besides one other anime nerd! DX
The plot of the movie follows Scarlet, the princess of 1600's era Denmark and her quest of revenge for the death of her father, even after she herself has died. The whole movie takes place in this "other world," essentially the afterlife, no matter who you are. Along the way Scarlet meets Hijiri, a medic from modern day Japan, and someone who has a more idealistic view of the world, and he joins her on her quest (mostly because he seems more concerned with the lives of others). Its a visually impressive movie, and I personally really liked the style of the animation. I'm a personal lover of surrealism, so perhaps that might be lost on viewers who don't enjoy that.
It surprised me to learn that it was supposed to be a take on Hamlet, because I didn't really get the references other than Scarlet's father being named Amlet. Other than that, although a bit all over the place, I thought it was a great story! The thing I don't see many reviewers talk about is although the plot and main idea isn't the most complicated thing I've ever watched, I think that some of the layering and highly symbolic areas of the film make up for it. In short, I'd say the main theme of the movie is forgiveness, but more importantly forgiving yourself. There are also beats of sort of "Do you take the road of hatred and revenge, or do you choose kindness?" There are also shown times where BOTH are viable options in my opinion. I do admit, I can see where criticism of where certain parts fall flat is, especially if you can't pay attention in the very disorganized beginning of the movie where it is stated in this version of the afterlife "the past and future become one". I think that it has a very hopeful message, one that made me come out of the theater very happy to have watched it!
Of course, I know it won't be everyone's thing, but honestly? IDGAF!!!! X3 I recommend going if there's a place showing it! It may not be a night maker like it was for me for everyone, but it's certainly not a horrible experience to sit through!

l8r nerds!! PEACE!!! X3

Sounds very unique, and I love when the theatre is empty :> /pos
I think forgiveness is a good lesson, most people don’t stay the same and I try to give people the chance to grow from mistakes no matter how bad the thing they did was :] /ot

The movie genuinely sounds really good! I’ll have to see if I can watch it sometime.
