At first listen, it sounds like Nas is being more on the minimalist side of things, saying "All I need is one mic." To me this sounds almost like he's seen it all fame-wise. He's already had greatness at the time the song was released. How could he not want more? He's Nas. Lots of other artists would flex and talk about wanting the most, but not Nas. Futher putting my interpretation into my own words, Nas is talking about how this is all more than a hobby. Needing only one mic sounds to me like he's saying it really is what he needs. The one he's started with. Nothing can replace that. Starting and ending a career with the same mic simply because that's what you choose and that's how you let out emotions and more, that's fire.
Nasir
Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones was born in 1973 in Queensbridge, New York. Over the years, this became one of the most famous public housing projects in hip hop history!
Nasir's father, Olu Dara is a jazz musician from Natchez, Mississippi. He later moved to New York City and became part of the jazz scene there. Nas was born and raised around instruments, likely igniting his artistic instinct.

Final Thoughts
Who doesn't like Nas? Come on now... Maybe Jay-Z or Tupac, a long time ago, but... Come on.. It's Nas.
Was hoping you were going to do that American Epic Sessions version I linked you to, but regardless, as you wisely point out, it's Nas! How can anyone not like Nas?
Oh, nice! Was part of a project Jack White was involved in. All done on authentic 1925 equipment. The musicians recorded an old song from the era, and one of their own. Nas did "On the Road Again" and his own "One Mic" (with literally one mic)
