The Neighbors

Does anyone else have just the most awful neighbors? I do. And it's not just one thing. It's everything.

Firstly, every day and I mean EVERY SINGLE DAY they play their music outside. I found out tonight that it comes from a giant bluetooth speaker that they have pointing directly at my house. And this isn't just a minor annoyance; they play their music at the kind of volume that has the cops coming over. They treat every day, all day, like this block is their own personal club and that everyone appreciates the entertainment. News flash: we don't. My roommate and I have lived here since November 2020 and we have talked to them no less than 15 times asking them to turn down the music. Like... do they think that we just change our minds about how we feel about the volume of their music on days we don't feel like going next door and telling them to shut it off?

Next, they have this beaten down SUV that they souped up to sound like a racing car. I mean, this engine is LOUD. When it's idling, it sounds like there is a huge diesel truck outside. Sometimes, the owner of that car plays his music through the car speakers and that's even worse than the bluetooth speaker because the bass blows out his car's sound system. It literally shakes the windows in our house. And they have this vehicle turned on for most of the day and night. No idea why. Even as I'm writing this, I can hear it outside.

They also have an RV parked in the back of their house. Oh, wait, I forgot. It's now parked directly next to the side of our house because the city told them to move it. So they moved it. Exactly 100 feet forward into their front yard. So now my roommate and I get to hear the screaming matches and slamming door of the RV since it is literally 50 feet from our front door.

Getting to the worse issues, we are almost positive they sell drugs. And not the regular old weed that pretty much everyone I know has some part of, but the bad stuff. You know. Opiates. In fact, the person that owns this house used to live here himself and we know he had to have been a drug dealer. We didn't know this before we moved in. But after we signed the lease and were told the house was ready for us to move all of our stuff in, we figured it out quickly. The house was completely disgusting to the point that we were literally scrubbing the walls with bleach. And for 2 months after, people were coming to our door at all hours of the night and day looking for the owner of the house. People who were obviously tweaking. We had one person a day coming at the worst times. The scariest time happened at 3am. My boyfriend was here and my roommate was working a graveyard shift. A man came to our BACK DOOR and knocked for so long that I finally had to answer it. He wasn't wearing a shirt or shoes and he was so high that it was insane. He asked for the owner by name and I told him that he didn't live here anymore, and to tell all his friends to stop coming to my house. I slammed the door in his face and he continued knocking on the door and calling out to me, asking to talk to me. I never saw him again, thank goodness. Anyway, one day we noticed that our neighbors were outside painting their car with spray paint. We also realized that this coincided with a drug sting we know was being executed by the police in town. The following day, we saw one of the women who lives in the house next door and she had completely changed her appearance. We know that they were painting the car to avoid being found by the cops.

The worst part of having these people as neighbors, by far, is their kids. And no, it isn't an issue of annoyance. Even though yes, they are very annoying. They are all under the age of 10 and they are pretty obnoxious. They steal the mail, throw garbage in our yard, run through our yard messing with our stuff, yell and scream, curse, etc. But the real issue is how awful they are treated by their family. They run around without shoes most of the time and I have never heard their family say a kind word to them. They made these kids help them spray paint their car. They locked the little girl outside one night and just listened to her as she screamed and pounded on the door to be let in. Then they acted like she locked herself out when they saw me standing outside watching what was happening. There have been many times that I thought about calling the police when I heard things going on next door. And sometimes, I've wanted to call them just to be spiteful to the neighbors. But I can't do that to those kids. They remind me of how I grew up. My home was broken and I know that people must have looked at my family the way we are looking at theirs. And we had the police at our house many times and all it did was make things worse. Until finally there was enough proof found that we were taken out of that situation. And it breaks my heart.

Long story short, I hate my neighbors.
