An Alvis Saladin Armoured Car in My City

An Alvis Saladin armoured car belonging to the Indonesian National Army (Tentara Nasional Indonesia, TNI) parked on a pavement in the city centre of Manado City. It is rare to see these vehicles nowadays, especially those operated by Indonesia. I wonder why it's here though.

This British-made armoured car has been parked here since around November 2025 until now. Designed in 1954 and produced from 1958 to 1972 around almost 1,200 units, this vehicle has been known for its versatility. Indonesia ordered around 69 vehicles in the 1960s.

Some of these have been modernised, including the one in these photos. I have climbed up and seen inside the turret, it is old. Luckily in this city there are no people who like to steal iron like those in Medan City, you know, "iron termites". This is full iron, you know.

Maybe this is just for display here, I don't know. What do you think about this vehicle? Are there military vehicles parked or displayed on the streets like this in your city or area?

Taken on Monday, 5 January, 2026 from 13:08 to 13:18 with Samsung Galaxy A05s at North Wenang Sub-district, Wenang District, Manado, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.
