hi everyone! i just finished Ace Attorney: Justice for All yesterday night
and i must say: so far, this franchise has had some amazing writing!
the way they set everything up for a particular conclusion, and then they throw a plot twist at you, all while revealing more stuff about some characters, and then adding ANOTHER plot twist... both games did it extremely well
particularly Farewell, My Turnabout. Turnabout Goodbyes and Rise from The Ashes were incredible too, but this one really made me feel all sorts of things. at first it seems Juan is the innocent victim but towards the end they show that he was kinda a bad person too. and the whole deal with Celeste and Adrian OML... i feel so freaking bad for that woman, so many things happened to her, and this whole trial didn't make it any easier ;-; i'm so glad everything turned well and i hope she can continue to live and find happiness
Matt Engarde is awful as a person but amazing as a character. right from the beginning he was smart: hiring someone to kill his rival so he doesn't dirty his hands, so when he says he didnt kill anyone, from a technical perspective, he's not lying. and although he wasnt the one to kidnap the girl, at the same time he didnt really care and even used it to keep Phoenix on his side. he goes around using every single person he meets, even the guy he hired to kill. and that was ultimately his downfall.
and it's not just the writing for the plot and characters, but also the development. the majority of the time it feels natural and not rushed; even the humour: it appears when you least expect it, but the game also knows how to balance the funny stuff with the serious tone.
this post is a bit all over the place lmao, but i just wanted to express my feelings because these games have some seriously good stories and characters. i honestly didnt expect such depth from a game with such simple gameplay. it goes to show that a game doesnt need ULTRA HD 4K graphics or a complex gamplay in order to be great.
i'll take a small break from this series to really take in all that happened, maybe watch some youtubers play the game , see their reaction etc. but i'm DEFINITELY excited to play the next installment!!
