My girlfriend and I recently had a conversation where we discussed her exquisite taste in jewelry. During this conversation (that was over the phone) I quickly jumped for a pen and paper when she started telling me what her ideal engagement ring would be. She told me about how she wanted a simplistic raw, or marquise shaped peridot (her birth stone), or emerald (her favorite type of green) ring with a simplistic, relatively thin silver band. Nothing more, besides maybe a few small accent stones. I was honestly a bit surprised to hear what she wanted, I was like "No big stone? No big band? No ginormous diamond?" She hasn't talked much about her taste in rings. I knew she likes simplistic ear rings and necklaces, but most of her fashion style is often quite extravagant. For some reason I just sillily assumed she'd want a big diamond for some reason. Whenever I'd daydream of marrying her, I always thought about myself buying her the biggest, most ostentatious diamond I could find. We went on to talk a little bit about how diamonds aren't really that special or rare, and Its all a giant marketing scam (no shade to people who like diamonds)

Today's Question:
What's your, or your significant other's dream engagement ring?

I agree with your girlfriend. Big diamond rings, to me, seem "for show". I like small silver rings as well, not gold. Big diamond rings are flashy I guess, and to level headed girls (seems like you have one, thank God), they want more than just that! They want it to mean something!
Congrats to you two!
