Hoshi no Kaabii Vs Kirby Right Back At Ya episode 5!

It's Wispy Wood baby! I don't think there's a single Kirby game where Wispy Woods, or a variation of the character wasn't the first boss! It took 5 episodes, but it's good to see Wispy!

So Dedede owes Holy Nightmare a lot of money for ordering all the monsters, and he's refusing to pay the bills. Says he has his own plan to get rid of Kirby. The plan is actually pretty damn evil and has a nice twist. Dedede sends a letter to Wispy telling him about Kirby and his friends wanting to destroy him. Lures Kirby into Wispy Woods with apples. Once there, Wispy attacks Kirby and his friends thinking they're there to destroy the forest. He buries Kirby, Fumu, Bun, and Tokkori in an avalanche of apples. Once that's done, Dedede shows up and reveals he's actually here to destroy all of Wispy Woods (Wispy Wood is the name of both the character and the woods itself) now that he's defenseless after attacking Kirby. He wants to build his own private golf course on Wispy Woods! He succeeds too! But Kirby, having eaten apples from Wispy was able to find one of those apples containing Wispy's life force, spits it back out and brings Wispy back to life, and Wispy gets his revenge on Dedede. The funny thing is, Kirby doesn't get any powers at all. He's not the main focus of this episode. He saves the day by exploring the inside of his stomach and finding the life force apple that belongs to Wispy.

Nothing was cut from the English dub as far as I can see. There is a major edit. In the Japanese version, Dedede cuts down Wispy and all the trees with a regular chainsaw. In the US version, it's a LASER chainsaw. It's a glorified lightsaber! I'm surprised they made that change, but you still see Wispy and all his trees get cut down by Dedede. You see him cut through the trees and they let out a groan and their faces fade away as the trees fall. It's pretty graphic for a forest destruction scene. Yet somehow a regular chainsaw is too graphic, and had to be edited into a laser chainsaw.

The other thing is I feel like the English writers are getting more comfortable with this episode when it comes to rewriting the script. There are a couple of pretty funny lines in the English dub throughout the episode. Fumu's mom (forgot her Japanese name) was a standout character even though she's only in like 1 scene. She a really doesn't take any shit from Dedede and Escargoon.

Wispy's voice is way more intimidating in the Japanese version. The music that plays while Wispy is reviving the chopped down forest is really beautiful in the Japanese original.

Also spotted a cameo from the Fox boss from Kirby's Dreamland 3 in this episode.
