how to make alcohol at home [ingredients, steps, and results]

hello schizos. it's me once more. today i bring you a blog detailing my homebrewing recipe and the steps to complete it! but before i get into ANYTHING, i need to clarify some stuff.

DEAR SPACEHEY MODERATORS.
Homebrewing via fermentation is completely legal in all 50 states of the US for individuals over the age of 18. This blog details the process and the materials needed to get started. That being said...
YOU MUST BE OVER 18 TO DO THIS.
While fermentation is legal in the US, it is still illegal for people aged 18 and under.
IF YOU ARE UNDER 21, YOU MUST BE ON PRIVATE PROPERTY.

okay! now that you've read that, let's get into the good stuff.

WHAT YOU NEED:
  • >1 gallon jug of PLAIN water. Mineral water works also but be careful if it has any kind of "preservative" because it will most likely ruin your product.
  • >sugar [granulated].
  • >Champagne yeast. [bread yeast also works, but it's not as effective and can ruin the taste imo]
  • >Yeast nutrient [preferably "FERMAID O"]
  • >air filter [you can make these yourself or skip it entirely]

All of these are my preferred options.
[EC-1118 YEAST] [YEAST NUTRIENT] [FILTER]

STEPS:
  1. MEASURE OUT THE WATER:
Pour out ~1 quart of water from the jug. Drink it so it doesn't go to waste!
  2. ADD SUGAR:
Add ~2.5 LBS of sugar to the jug. I know it's a lot, but after fermentation, this will ALL become alcohol!
  3. SHAKE:
Mix in the sugar until it's fully dissolved.
  4. ADD YEAST:
Add one entire packet of the yeast of your choosing.
  5. NUTRIENT:
Add 1 TBSP of the Fermaid O nutrient. This gives the yeast more energy to eat the sugar and shit out alcohol.
  6. SHAKEY SHAKEY:
    Mix everything together.
  7. ADD THE FILTER:
Take off the lid of the jug and add the filter. You could use the one I linked OR these methods:
    >Poke a hole in a balloon or plastic glove and wrap the larger opening around the neck of the jug. Secure with rubber bands.
    >Put the lid on and SLIGHTLY tighten it. Make sure air can still get out.
  8. PLACE SOMEWHERE WARM:
Place your jug somewhere warm. The warmer the place is, the faster fermentation moves.
  9. WAIT:
This depends HEAVY on what yeast you used. It could take as little as 4 days and as long as a month. This recipe takes around 10 days for me, so if you followed it exactly, there you go!
  10. SERVE:
After the aforementioned fermentation period. Place the jug in the fridge for an hour or two, this gets all the yeast floating around to fall to the bottom, then pour out into any container of your choosing!

That's it! Super simple. This should make you a 15-18% ABV Mixer! You can add a stabilizer and then mix in more sugar or whatever kind of flavoring you want after the fact.
Let me know if you're using this method and leave me updates!
