hi guys!! i'm in a rly good mood bc i got to play more D&D with my friends last night \(^-^)/
for a while we were unable to play consistently bc of work schedules, but it seems that's all sorted out. we only had a two week wait between games instead of over a month! i rly like this DM too. his game is soooo Zelda inspired, it's just got that cozy fantasy while still being epic, and the world is so breathable
playing with these guys is literally the highlight of my week, i genuinely laugh the hardest i ever will during these games. all these stupid non-canon side comments i'll never forget, like when we threw a tuba into the ocean and 30 minutes later upon trying to show someone an important object i just go "oh, i left that in the tuba." we all participate in these stupid bits that sometimes shape the world. like a player just bullcrapping an NPC named Bob into existence, and now we have to tell everyone "hey, so this dragon killed the mayor. and Bob." something i don't mean to do but angers everyone in the group is how i'm bad at names. i literally couldn't tell u his actual name, but i called an NPC Gergink XD and the main plot is that there's three dragons. the first one is Zangulax, but i called him Xanax. and then i called Zorlon Zebulon, and tbh i couldn't even tell u what the third one's actual name is. Zamis? the DM was joking last night "yeah next campaign, the names are just gonna be Harold and Steve and Joe"
but asides from all the jokes, we rly do respect the DM's world and participate in it. i'm glad it was a roleplay heavy session bc all of our dice rolls suckeddddd. except for when we all played carnival games, which is the best use of those rolls lmao
i almost forgot to mention an insane NPC we met who was willing to give us 50 gold to go on a fishing trip with him. which is INSANE btw, bc that's like, TWO YEARS SUPPLY of money for a non-adventurer. so we went fishing and he's so absent minded, he thinks he's catching fish but it's the same one that he just never takes off his hook. we then ran into some pirates out of the ocean and had to fight them. it was a good and jaunty battle. a turn of combat in D&D is 6 seconds, so we must have defeated these guys in 30 seconds or so? the NPC didn't even know we were in battle, and when we were done he was perfectly content with turning back. 50 gold for like... 5 minutes on the water. WTF LOL
the NPCs are great. there's this one guy we don't like who's a travelling onion obsessed salesman who just puts onions in fish and soup. and he has tattoos of the three dragons. one on each sleeve, and as for the third we joked it was across his butt or something. oh yeah, i forgot! we didn't know there was a third dragon until this session. the priest said he'd tell us if we won all the carnival games happening in town the next day. apparently this third dragon was common knowledge, but we have to go on this stupid quest to learn about him?? lol. we literally started asking NPCs "hey do you know the third dragon" and they all did but when we asked them for info they were just like "i'm too busy at the carnival! might as well play some games"
also one NPC was named Uncle Eddie, whose original name was Uncle Ernie but i made the DM change it because of Uncle Eddie's song from The Who haha
another good moment from last night was a player joining us who couldnt make it last time we played, so his character went on a solo adventure. when we reunited with him, he wasn't doing his character voice. and i stood up and said "THAT'S NOT THE REAL SIMON, THAT'S A FAKE!" and bro started SMIRKING and looking away, like OMG i called it out immediately. and him and the DM were covering it up pretty wellll, but i genuinely still believe it. i knew Simon's player wanted to stop playing Simon and him and the DM have been communicating over what to do with his character, soooo...... i swear i clocked it immediately. that was kind of our running joke throughout the session, at one point i even texted the player "hey this is the DM, you can reveal yourself as the fake Simon Peddle in a couple minutes" another player has trouble with his character voice and keeps slipping out of it, so then everyone starts playfully dogpiling on him "he's the fake!!!!!!" and they're trying to do this to call holes in my theory but i'm like NO u don't get it hahaha
at the end of the session we got to interrogate this super mysterious guy who has a lot of impact on the plot, and we all had genuine theories on who he was. one of the dragons, this all-powerful inter-dimensional shopkeeper we know, a wizard from a previous campaign (all of our games are loosely tied together), i joked that he was the crazy fisherman NPC and that personality was all a front to a wise and cunning man. but someone just had to bring up SANTA. and i will say, that feels like a genuine option?? santa is canon to our D&D worlds. someone made the hilarious stretch that this guy can see the dragons, who are sleeping, just like how SANTA sees you when you're sleeping and this guy also knows when you're awake?!?!??!!?!? *puts hands on head in shock*
anyway, u could tell everyone was having a great time. we played for 8 hours straight! i love these guys and i can't wait til next time ^^
