I had this though for a while now i'm just now writing about it.
Which is THE POWER DYNAMICS OF MAKING GAMES:
I've been makin indie projects for game jams for abooout 3 years now i'd say, and i noticed two things.
1: About Learning
The formula for the power level of your art is: Skill = Time x Guidance x Talent.
Talent can go from 1 to 6, with 1 being beyond common to 6 being a literal genius god at it.
In my case i'd say my skill bonus is a solid 4.
Why is it 1 from 6 you ask? it's because dice have 6 sides and the gods play dice when making a character for it is the ultimate fairness, the ultimate luck.
Guidance is self explanatory but it goes from 1 to 10, with a 10 outta 10 video, professor or book reaaallly taking you to another level of understanding.
2: About specific skill
Games can be made by 3 people, you need a Artist, a Programmer and a Musician, that's it, anything else it's extra, the real core of any game making are those 3 people. But unfortunately they are not equal.
The formula for a good game goes as follows: Game= Art + Music x Code (1 to 10)
An artist alone cannot make a game, it'll be just art.
An musician alone cannot make a game, it'll be just soundtracks.
But a programmer alone can make a game.
A game that's well coded can have not so good music or art but from my experience i discovered that it'll still slap, it'll still be a good game, but it's opposites are not true.
The unfortunate sad reality is that if i want to make a good project i depend a lot on the skills of the programmer even if the visuals i make for the game turn out fire.
