🧬 pokemon origin theory

*keep in mind i am in no way a pokemon superfan, i'm not in the fandom, i haven't played every game and i don't care to, i don't care about all of the lore, i am a casual enjoyer and this is just a fun autism thing for me OKAAAY ^_^ so dont be like "BUT THAT DOESNT MAKE SENSE BECAUSE CANONICALLY-" i dornt care ^_^

pokemon are made of digital dna (code). the reason why there are no "real" animals on the pokemon world (anymore) is because once pokemon started being released (or escaping) into the wild, they quickly outcompeted all non-pokemon organisms. because they fucking have powers. it's been made clear since the beginning of the series that pokemon are dangerous, and since then, there have been hints that pokemon weren't always so cooperative with humans. hence why there's also a considerable lack of humans in the pokemon world

but it's obvious that "real" animals did once exist in the pokemon world, because a lot of animal-like pokemon are described as the animals they're based off of. for example, pikachu is known as "the mouse pokemon". clearly, there were once mice to compare pikachu to. but here did all the mice go? makes you think

because pokemon were originally made digitally, that's why they can be stored in pokeballs and inside computers. my theory is that they are stored as a file but that file is an organism of sorts reduced down to its base dna, or code. it only has a physical body when existing in the physical world. pokerus is literally a computer virus that gets into the pokemons' code and buffs their growth rate or whatever. the virus can randomly attach to one of your party pokemon when it's healed at a healing center (i imagine it in the early years as a sort of power strip you buy separately to hook your pokemons' storage devices to, actual pokemon centers didnt come until much earlier [heh. time travel]), and it spreads through close and prolonged contact in the physical world (which is why it only spreads among pokemon in your party in the games)

so. as pokemon age their code begins to fall apart/glitch, and that's why they die. they can also die if their code is sufficiently damaged in battle. and like in charmander's case, its code is set to expire if the flame on its tail goes out

"but how could pokemon have been created digitally when pokemon existed thousands of years ago canonically?" time travel is canonically possible

so now (at the time of the pokemon games) humanity is left picking up the pieces of their hubris! and trying to make it work for as long as possible, even while knowing that the stability can't last, and total annihilation is inevitable. a pokemon has made itself their god. it's only a matter of time really....

(i think the orre region from pokemon colosseum/XD is an excellent example of a post-armageddon type setting. gawd i love those games theyre so unique)

anyway, it's likely pokemon were created in the future, maybe starting as a sort of more advanced digital pet that could be emulated in the real world to an extent. maybe the creator of these digital pets or maybe owners of said pets started modding/hacking them to make them more interesting, more unique, more useful... maybe some sort of company or government realized they could do big things with the technology, yadda yadda, ultimately i think they would end up being utilized for committing human rights violations and other such atrocities like certain technologies are irl blah blah blah

i mean, if pokemon were used to fight wars thousands of years in the past, why not in the future, at their conception?

maybe somehow somewhere along the line pokemon gain sentience whether gradually or thru some like opposing (human) force infiltrating the like... pokemon servers.. and introducing/editing code to make them more like animals instead of machines

ofc this would make it so any pokemon actively in use would effectively become a danger to literally everybody (and not just those they were originally deployed against in the case of the ones being used by the govt/military/whatever). like wild animals suddenly being dropped in the middle of a major city surrounded by unfamiliar noises and smells and things, and squishy, vulnerable humans. and the wild animals also have machine guns and flamethrowers and lazers and whatnot strapped to their backs. it would be utter chaos

imo arceus, giratina, dialga, and palkia could have enough intelligence and wherewithall as basically pokemon gods to bend space/time/reality and split the timeline so that the world isnt totally lost to a pokemon apocalypse in every universe. ofc if a timeline can be split, multiverse theory immediately becomes fact and that means infinite possibilities ^w^

i imagine the original devices pokemon were kept in as sort of like tamagotchi but a little more advanced obviously. something with a screen, but the pokemon could also be physically projected into the real world. since the devices are (for the time) kind of rudimentary, it definitely isnt as simple in the beginning as sending a pokemon out of a pokeball and calling it back in. like maybe you have to physically touch the projection with the device for the pokemon to "despawn" and go back to its digital/file state, or go through a disconnection process, something like that. so when pokemon first gain sentience, they cant just easily be recalled, and the majority of them escape before anyone even knows whats happening

ditto was the prototype maybe, im not sure on that but it makes sense in some ways. i like to think they didnt originally intend to release it as an official pokemon but after it was leaked or something fans demanded it be made available to the public because they loved its concept

shiny pokemon are a glitch in the code

certain legendary pokemon retroactively created themselves. im mainly thinking of the sinnoh legends again (i <3 sinnoh). personifications of laws of physics and such as humans understand them

thats all my thoughts atm but maybe i'll do a part 2 if i think of more tee hee
