My Rock Collection

When I was younger I began collecting rocks. I thought, and still believe, that rocks are one of the coolest things to collect. You see nowadays, EVERYTHING gets manufactured and reproduced so their originality seems a bit skewed when you think about it. Rocks however, are so unique and reek of individuality that I just jump for joy when I find one to add to my collection! 

I feel like for me, rocks held such a simple thought in my mind, but as I've grown they've become more of a metaphor for me. One of my favorite metaphors that they've given me over the years is the idea that similarly to a rock collection, our lives are also made up of the experiences and memories we choose them to be made of. If you're a collector like me, you don't collect any and everything, because not everything speaks to you. A collection is particular and specifically crafted for your likes and needs. However, those specific pieces that you choose to collect don't get collected by everyone and no two peoples collections are the same. Well life is the same way! I like to believe that although many things happen to people and they experience many things, they ultimately choose what they want to carry with them and choose what they want to leave behind. So throughout life they are slowly collecting new things to add to themselves and crafting the person they are/want to be. It's a bit of a deeper metaphor but when I think about life that way, it makes little things like collecting rocks seems so sweet.

I like to think that everyone is a collector is some way shape or form. Now what they choose to collect is up to them but whatever it may be, it makes them who they are. Even though collecting rocks may seem so minor it's had such a huge impact on my outlook on life.
