I'm currently writing a story about two queer guys living in 1930s (1937) Germany.
I myself am German and so is the majority of my family, therefore I'd say I'm pretty educated about the happenings in 1930s-1940s Germany, WW2 and also the Shoa/Holocaust.
Queer people (especially gay men) were a group targeted by the Nzis and affected by the Shoa.
The story is historically acurate and does not play down or trivialize the happenings and the crimes of the Shoa.
There already are fictional works (e.g. "The Boy In The Stripped Pyjama" by John Boyne or "Inglorious Basterds" by Quentin Tarantino) which handle the topic of WW2 and the Shoa.
Still, I'm torn back and forth if it's morally reasonable to write such a story because it's fiction.
I am really passionate about this project and I am doing a lot of thorough research from reasonable sources but at the same time I'm also worried as to if this is ethically reasonable.
Please tell me what you think of this, I really need other opinions on this.
Thanks :)
