I think it is very hypocritical to make your whole identity your music taste. Of course, it is only a hobby, and god knows how much i support hobbies, but I hate people that feel superior because they listen to a folk band from Venezuela, with two men that do ayahuasca every time they make a song and jerk each other out on the chorus. I love pop music and I am not ashamed of it. Pop metal? Bring it on, Pop folk? Bring it on. Pop Laika? Bring it on. Hell, even Justin in his prime was good.
I believe that pop music has a reason as to why it is pop, as in popular. 50% of it is because of the marketing, 20% is because of how good the music is and the rest is because of the deals the artists have made Satan or smt. STILL there is no reason for it to be hated, only because people like it. It does not make you special to listen to pop as it does not make you special to listen to only unreleased songs from 1895 from a band that played only in their mama's basement. U god damn elitists need to stop the soul sucking whenever someone is not following the whole "I am a special snowflake cause I only jerk of to 70s" music.
Mitskis old songs slap tho

Truth be told i am a "music elitist" and i feel like there is a definite reason as to why some people think of themselves as inferior/superior. Music is to be evaluated as are all art forms and commercial slop is almost always less soulful than people who made some music as to express themselves. Pop as in the over processed and board meeting with executives as a genre to me will be always inferior when compared to any band/artist that tried with nothing and made something. Everyone enjoys different things indeed but its always good to have insight and share that with people that might care!
I think you are missing my point. I do not speak about taste or evaluation of music. I speak about the way it gets tied by some people to social status. My issue lies with the unsolicited evaluation of my taste of music and the superiority people try to force on others due to listening habits. As you said, insight should be shared with people that might care, but in my opinion, only with people that care.

I always hated those guys in high school who made their whole personality the music they listened to and judge others based off what they listen to. They were always so annoying and always thought they had peak taste. when NEWS FLASH everyone's taste in music is different..so there's not one genre that's above the others.
Girl I totally agree with you. During high school everyone tries to feel special, and the hormones take you to a downward "who am I" spiral and you try to find reasons to feel important. However, especially after a certain age if you still base a big portion of your worth on your "peak" music taste, it kind of shows that you don't have a lot going on for you. "Peak" music taste kind of gives peaked in high school.
