Don’t wait in the car.
The gas isn’t worth wasting
On a girl still in the theater
Watching the credits roll.
Please find an escape
And get out of this town
Because you see what she is
As you reach for her soul.
The movie’s been closed
And the locals moved out
But she sits in anticipation
As her fingers grow cold.
And you ponder the feeling
That left you vacant-hearted
Pealing away the layers
Of a story so old.
“I’m not good enough,” she told.
“I’m not good enough to hold.
He replied, “but I need your words.
I need the light. I love your soul.”
The doors are locked.
The theater’s closed.
And she’s chosen to stay
Where she know she can’t fold.
