One of my favorite teachers defended AI😞

(I'm not gonna use his real name so I'll just call him Mr S) 

It's thursday morning and I've just walked into the breakfast club my school runs, I go to the table me and my friend sit at. (Also not using her real name so I'll call her Alex instead) I place my bag on the bench before I go and see the breakfast options.

About just over a week ago posters were put around the school advertising a 'continental food week' for this week. It was clearly made by AI and I wasn't really the happiest about it so I moved along with the week.

So I'm there looking at all the breakfast options before Mr S pulls me aside. He points at the posters he 'made' and asked me about my problem with it. Yesterday I was in a class council meeting with the rest of the council and I right at the end mentioned something about a ban on all AI usage across the school, complaining about AI 'posters', AI 'literature' and AI 'Art', if you can even call it that.

I pointed out that the poster was clearly AI generated, along with a few more posters that were around the school. Mr S says "Yes, it's AI generated by me." At that point I thought he just didn't know that AI companies are harming the environment and wasting water, so I told him about all the affects it has. Though to my surprise he knew very damn well about it's affects. He tried to justify himself by saying "Thats why I did something good with AI like making this poster and not typing in stupid stuff in." I REPEAT HE SAID "Thats why I did something good with AI like making this poster and not typing stupid stuff in." HE SAID IT SO PROUDLY AS IF HE ISN'T HARMING THE ENVIRONMENT. HE KNEW VERY WELL WHAT AI IS DOING AND STILL DEFENDS IT. 

After that stupid interaction with someone I thought was smart, I walk back to my table honestly just disappointed and tell Alex about everything that just happened. We're both just looking at eachother disappointed. Completely disappointed. That was until Mr S comes to our table and jokes about us all being AI generated. "What if you're AI generated? What if I'm AI generated? What if we're all AI generated!?" I'm just sat there disgusted and disappointed in him as he was always the type of person to embrace others art and motivate others to draw. 

I'm genuinely just feeling mad at him so I felt like writing a blog about this whole situation.
