I think it'd be fun to start listening to and collecting either CDs or cassette tapes. I just wanna pick one though, and I'm still deciding.
CDs sound better (at least that's what I've heard) and are probably easier and faster to burn than recording tapes, but cassette tapes look so cool and they're such a nice size imo. I probably will go with CDs cause it seems they ultimately have more pros even if they sadly look lamer (◞_◟). Idk, I'd love to hear from anyone who is into this stuff and knows more than me.
Also think vinyls are really cool but by far the most expensive. (plus I want something smaller and portable). I've got a few records but I don't think I'll continue to collect them.

CD's are probably the best place to start when collecting music, I'd say. They are easier to acquire and use. I just got my 2nd CD the other day, and I keep thinking about growing a collection myself.
Have fun collecting!

This really just boils down to your listening habits and budget. CDs are more accessible whether you're purchasing them or burning them yourself. With cassettes, I believe they're a bit more expensive and require more specialized equipment if you want to make them yourself. With that in mind, only recently have artists started releasing cassettes again so current day selections are fairly limited. If you listen to a lot and what to expand your collection (especially if you want to do so faster), I would say stick to CDs. If you know what you like and know how to maintain the equipment, go for cassettes.

i think cds are the easiest one, you can rip them, portable players have nothing really to break so it's relatively easy to get a working one(especially compared to tape players). there's also minidisc but this by far the most niche one, players are hard to get and you'll have to go with recording your own minidiscs. i'll also say to be aware of any record from 2000's and any record that has Rick Rubin involved, those usually have bad mastering with a lot of clipping. it's a long story just be skeptical of everything that comes from 2000-2010 and be very skeptical of everything that has Rick Rubin involved regardless of the format. almost everything after 2011 is fine, the newer it is - the better the mastering is. if you wanna read on why that is you can search for "loudness war", it's a big one and get ready for a lot of sound engineer terms

I've been into collecting cds for a bit and I like them more than the other options available solely because they're more versatile and cheaper. When I stopped using Spotify after getting an mp3 player, I could just pop all the cds I got into an external disc drive and rip the mp3 files off the cd then transfer them onto my mp3 player using my computer. It was very convenient, and I didn't have to do much other than properly order the songs in their respective albums. I still buy and listen to vinyls though because I just like the look of them, so you don't have to only stick to one, you can collect vinyls, cds, cassettes, tapes, and whatever else you'd like that plays tunes.
