I grew up playing Runescape on the family computer. By playing, I mean I would mine copper until my inventory was full. That's literally all I remember doing. So naturally when I installed RS3 the other day, I immediately went to work in the mines. I can't explain the satisfaction of idly mining, smelting, and forging weapons is.
When deciding to pick up an MMO, All I saw was reasons why RS3 is trash and why I should avoid it. Historically, my opinion on things has been way to easily swayed by online discourse. I found myself avoiding games if the reviews were too bad, not seeing a movie if a review disliked it, and sticking to only popular books. When it came to video games, I always got caught up in playing them the "right way." I was tied to playing the "meta" and doing things optimally. I realized recently that this is why I can never stay interested in a game long term anymore.
Which is why I decided to re download Runescape and start a new character. Despite playing while growing up, I came into this adventure mostly ignorant to the world of Gielinor. It's been a joy to play through the game the "wrong way." I choose quests based on my personal interest, not for the most optimal loot. It made me remember why I loved games in the first place.
